Powering 4th gen seats in 3rd gen??

Its been a while since I've had a 3rd gen with 4th gen seats in it but I just got a set of 2000 Camaro seats to go in my 91Z28. My 91 had a power seat (which was gone before I got the car). What solutions has anyone come up with to adapt the factory harness to the new seats? Since I don't have the factory seats, I don't have the 91 seat harness and the 2000 seats didn't come with the body side of the harness.... Is there any other way to power these seats without cutting both ends of the harness off and doing something cheesy like simple wire connectors?

go to the junkyard and get the body wire from a 4th gen car and run that to your fuse panel on an always hot connection.

Or you could go to Radio Shack or some other eletronic supply store and buy a pair of male/female connectors and change the connector on the seats wire and make your body harness wire.

You can just pull the factory wire out of a power seat car. It runs all the way back to the power distribution box and has a simple plug on the end. I took one out of my old parts car without any problems.

Re: Powering 4th gen seats in 3rd gen??

Seats just have 2 wires - power and ground - just run a power wire from an empty fuse slot under the carpet or door sill, and ground the ground wire anywhere.

Re: Powering 4th gen seats in 3rd gen??

I have the power seat option in my car, so power isn't the problem - I just didn't want to cut my factory end off. Just curious if anyone has ever made an adapter that connected the 3rdgen body connector to the 4th gen seat connector.

Yeah - I understand that. My point was if you wire it direct, then you can retain the stock wiring without cutting the connector leaving the original connector intact - ie not use the original connector.

I sorta agree with this solution the most. In that solution, I would cut & properly splice & solder in the new connector. Or (i like even better) would be to change the seat connector to fit the cars connectors, but finding a 3rd gen connector to salvage might be difficult.

Running new whole new wiring is a waste of having to use new wire & a waste of the old existing wires still being there.

Re: Powering 4th gen seats in 3rd gen??

Dont mean to hijack here but im guessing since i have the third gen power seat (connector) i should be able to splice it onto my 4th gen replacement seat.

Thanks for the confirmation...im hoping its this easy.

Re: Powering 4th gen seats in 3rd gen??

I'm in the process of adding 4th gen seats as well. My car doesn't have factory power installed so I've been looking for mating connectors. So far, I've found this piece that will plug into the 4th gen seat. It's AC Delco p/n PT1157. You can pick one up at rockauto.

If you need fbody parts, you need to find an fbody junker. My local shop I use is JJ's Automotive. Call 724-547-2959 ask for Brian. They have a bunch of cars laying around they should have power seat wiring and connectors

Just got the harness from the same guy I got my seats from. Wired it up and it looks factory.

Re: Powering 4th gen seats in 3rd gen??

Is this still an issue 2 weeks later?

From the picture, that six-wire connector looks to be what
activates the three directional motors. Where is the switch panel?
I suspect the connector in the picture is intended to connect to
a switch panel, and that component is where the constant power
& ground connections are included.

Good luck,
kk
