How to add shoulder strap on rear seats?
How to add shoulder strap on rear seats?
Is there a tread anywhere that tells how to mount the newer rear seat belts with the shoulder strap on a older model. I have an 86 camaro and want to get the newer seat belts but would like to know if its possible to mount it. Thanks!

Never done the swap, but I'd bet you'll need the 89-92 rear belts, the matching rear plastics and you'll probably have to hit the junkyards and cut the belt supports off a donor car.

i just removed a set in grey from a '91 formula today. Dante is correct, there is a little platform you would have to weld on. youi could use the existing plastic panels and cut a hole, but it would look better w/ the correct ones as they have a little ridge to mate up to the "tower" plastic. If you are interested in grey, pm me and we'll get you set up w/ the whole shibang.

No, I would have liked to also but when I heard you have to get into welding and stuff I changed my mind. The people in the back seat are that important
. It would be cool though.

haha! Well mine would be my twin girls so i would love to know if anyone else has experience in doing this.

In that case yeah it would definitely be worth it. I was thinking since welding would probably mean taking all the cloth off anyway it would make it a lot easier to get a rear seat out of a 3rd gen that already had the belt holders or a 4th gen.

Hey guys, revving old question.
Wouldn't in be just as good to bolt the plate and shoulder ratchet to the rear plate mount area instead if welding? it's just as strong and I can check twice a year to make sure bolt tite and corrosion free.

only problem i see with that besides the fact that those bolts might become loose over time and be no help in an accident for a person in the back seat...
i just drilled the spot welds that held the rear brackets from a junkyard donor car.
you go straight into the wheel well. your just asking for rust when the wheels kick up water up there where those bolt holes are if you drilled to bolt down the brackets.
i'm getting my car and brackets prepped and just going to have a buddy at a shop weld them in. shouldn't cost much at all since most of the work will be done ahead of time.
