Does anyone have a picture of the ashtray door spring? I took the center console top off to see why the ashtray door would not stay closed and found out that the spring, I assume it is a spring since there is a small hole in the door lever and a small hole in the console top, is missing. This is a new to me car so no telling how long it has been this way. I would like to replace the spring but don't know if it is a spring wire or a regular spring. Anyone have any pics or a good diagram that shows these parts?

What year and type of car are you referring to? That would help out a lot

 

It's actually just a wire about the size of a jumbo paperclip - it's spring steel. Lok under there (run a magnet around) and see if you can find it - otherwise search classifieds here or ebay.

 

Sorry, car is an 88 RS V6 with a/t.

I will be taking the cover off again today since my new shifter slider broke again, the plastic piece I found does flex quite enough to keep it attached like the stock piece. I try something different with the shifter but will look around with a magnet and flashlight for that wire spring, thanks!!
