i have an 82 trans am with a TH-350 its a 3 speed auto and i dont know how to fix the shifter ****, its the part that goes onto the shifter steam that you hold onto while going into a different gear. i have done days of searching for a new handle or replacement handle and cant seem to find one. i dont know how the handle work if theres a boot that goes with it to keep it inplace or what but the handle doesnt stay inplace

 

i own this shifter and have the the same problem.

the stem inside has a small notch sticking out. its just plastic. it has broken off.

need a new stem, but i dont think they make new ones which means you gota find an original but that will break soon as well.

just gota live with it or get creative. i have yet to find a perfect solution.

 

yeah i went to the junkyard today and found 2 ***** both from 2 dif camaros but i dont really care weather it looks good as long as itll pass inspection

 

Look in the Knight Rider parts circles. There are guys that reproduce the plastic parts to convert later TA's.

 

im one of those KR guys and i told him to look on ebay an junk yards for original parts. because GM and KR shops are not reproducing the inner stem for the shifter.

 

4 years ago I bought a repop handle, button, and that weird looking inner stem that looks like a series of beads from one of the Knight Rider parts makers. I didn't need the handle, but it was the only way he would include that stem. I tossed the handle on eBay and ended up getting the part I needed for free. Was it made? Was it NOS? I don't know, but he had them on a website for sale and it was not a one item deal.

 

k thanks yeah hopefully with luck 1 or the 2 handles will work i got the same stlye like **** out of one of the camaros with the detachable button and the other one was all together button and **** so if that doesnt work ill just have to use some sort of tape for now
