Horn button swap

Anyone know if a 2nd gen or even 1st gen horn button is the same diameter as the 3rd gen round Z28 horn button? I'm looking for something different. I'll be using the Z28 wheel, but wanted to see what other types of horn buttons will fit.

Re: Horn button swap

I'm not 100% sure, but I think a 2nd gen button is the same size. I have a 2nd gen button and a 3rd gen button here somewhere - I'll dig through my junk and see and post back up.

Re: Horn button swap

OK - found them. Looks like the 2nd gen button is slightly smaller - sorry I thought they were the same. They are real close - might be able to make it work. But it would be easier to use the 3rd gen button, and glue a 2nd gen emblem or something on it to make it different. In addition, the 2nd gen cars must have had something different about the horn itself, because the 2nd gen button doesn't have the metal plate and horn wire connector like the 3rd gen button. Here's pics if it helps:

Thanks, that helps. Do you have an extra 3rd gen horn button?

Re: Horn button swap

Sorry - I sure don't. I have one button, and one of the steering wheels it fits, and I'm saving them for that day when my 1992 air bag wheel looks too bad.

I did notice a 2nd gen button on ebay that ends in 2.5 hours with no bids, only $5 right now. But I only saw one 3rd gen button there, and it was $65!

Sorry, I just noticed the reply. For some reason I do not get email updates when someone responds in a thread that I am subscribed to. Anyways, I did notice the 3rd gen Z/28 horns going for a hefty price.

Re: Horn button swap

I believe that horn button is still available from GM. If it is the one I'm thinking about. I got mine through them but it was about two years ago. Around 50 bucks I believe.
