Kick panels, how do you get them out?!?

I'm tearing apart the interior of my Camaro, trying to get it ready to take my old carpet out, and put my new pretty black carpet in!! Yea!! However, I'm hitting road blocks, one of which is the kick panels, how the heck do you get those suckers off!?!? I don't see any screws or anything holding them on. The other road blocks are getting the center console out, which I searched here and basically figured out. Also, the seat belts, getting those unbolted and out. Just need the right tool to unscrew those though. Does anyone have any advice for not only the kick panels, but putting the new carpet in in general!?! Thanks!

I couldnt get them off either so I kinda gorilla'd the carpet out and they just came out with the carpet so I think they were wedged in there idk though I'd love to hear what people say so I know how to get them back in

IIRC, the culprit is a screw in the middle of the panel, which is easier felt than seen.

Got the kick panels off pretty easily after I knew what I was looking for. By the way they're carpeted so that's why it was so confusing! Also for anyone else doing this kind of thing in the future, they're Philip head screws, 1 on the driver one, and 2 on the passenger.

Just feel around in the carpet part with your finger. You will feel the screw head. I can't find the darn pick of the back of mine to show you the placement... UGH!

HaHa!! @1ADan
They're a pain in the *** if your trying to take them out of the car! The carpet makes it really hard to find the screw... also, mine aren't that nice anymore, probably going to redo them with some black carpet later on.

I think current plans for mine are to grab a second set that i can fiberglass up to make speaker pods. between the 4th gen dash and being a stickler for stereos, its probably the best option for me. although my glassing skills leave much to be desired in the looks department.....

What about the hood release handle and cable apparatus?

Once you get the screws out, you should be able to just wiggle the kick panel off. Pull it towards you and let the hood handle go though the hole.

Re: Kick panels, how do you get them out?!?

Now that I look close I see what you mean. I thought it was a small hole and the handle had to be taken off. Does the carpet on the kick panels have to be taken off to get to those screws?
Thanks for the info

Re: Kick panels, how do you get them out?!?

No,you dont have to take the carpet off to get to the screws.Alot of times the carpet does hide them so you might have to feel around with your finger to locate the screws

Re: Kick panels, how do you get them out?!?

@wilhay Like my82roc said, just feel around real close with your fingers, or do what I ended up doing and use a magnet, just rub all around on the carpet till you feel it stick to the head of the screw.

"they're Philip head screws, 1 on the driver one, and 2 on the passenger."
Yes, I just quoted myself lol! Good luck

That's nothing that carpet can't hide.

Re: Kick panels, how do you get them out?!?

Yup, theres screws in there and they're alot of fun to put back. I left all the hard to reach screws out and put the lowest one in along the rocker

Consoles are a bit more tricky to get out without cracking the shift plate or the window switches. Once the shift plate is off, youll see one bolt behind the shifter. Its a pain to access because it's perpendicular to you and stuff is in the way. Two more inside the glove box and its free assuming you can pull the e-brake high enough
