console modification

hey all, im new here, just bought a 1985 firebird. im planning on doing some interior mods to make it look a little custom and different. im sure no one has done this before, and if anyone has, please point me in the right direction. im planning on possibly cutting the console right before the arm rest starts, and making the shifter come directly from the floor like the old school 60s stick shifts, rubber boot and all. im going to plastic weld or glue a peice of flat plastic over top of the cut off end and do away with the front end all together. just looking for some input and wanted to know what you think, if anyone has any questions i can put up some pics as well.

Re: console modification

First off welcome to thirdgen!

I would go to a junk yard and get a console to cut up incase you don't like it or maybe find one that suits you mod better than cutting the existing one

Re: console modification

Interesting idea. Dunno if I'd do it to my car, but only you have to be happy with your car. Post up pics when you do it.

Re: console modification

How about in the dash map pocket, that's where I keep my insurance. My registration goes in the trunk on the left side in the locked compartment along with the front license plate that I'm supposed to have on. LOL

Re: console modification

Texas....License & insurance please...

Registration is handled by a sticker on the windshield, like the Inspection sticker.

Just need to ditch the front plate crap!

Re: console modification

The trunk is fine I guess... but... around here the cops get pretty pissed when you try to get out of the car... even of you tell them what you're doing...
