I have one of the god awful radio control steering wheels in my '89 gta in which the buttons had never done anything more then be a massive eye sore. Anyways, I was hoping to get an old second gen t/a wheel but I see the adapters are different and if it's too big a pain to switch it I could really care less and just get a basic 3rd gen t/a wheel. Any advice is welcomed, thanks any merry Christmas!

Adapters? I wouldn't expect a 2nd gen TA steering wheel to need an adapter.
My 87 GTA has the standard steering wheel & I can't decide on what style aftermarket steering wheel I want. Whatever I get, I know it'll need an adapter, but I have considered welding it to the adapter, to get rid of all the little allen head bolts on the steering wheel center.

It looks as if it uses a different mounting method to the steering column, either way i'll probably just end up getting another third gen wheel saving myself a hundred dollar's on aesthetics and more into power!

Do you have an air bag? If so, the 4th gen wheel is a direct swap except for one slight thing, the airbag connector - but you simply swap connectors or straight-wire it.

I just put a 2nd gen wheel in place of my 92's airbag wheel. Best swap ever. Direct bolt in, got mine at the junk yard for $15. The only one that had closed doors.Originally Posted by Infested

I had this exact wheel in my 1986 SWB Chevy Full Size. It's a good wheel, but IMHO it's diameter is a bit small. However, it might have just seemed that way because i had it in a TRUCK. Currently i'm running a Grant 457 in my 1982 Camaro and love it to death.Originally Posted by ronusmcmma

In Addition, you can get Horn buttons with things like Bowties (i have that one) or the Word "Camaro" in Script that are designed to fit into these wheels. If i remember, i'll take a shot of mine so you can get an idea of what it looks like.

The question now is.....Will it pass State Inspection without an airbag steering wheel?Originally Posted by sw33tp34

My state doesn't have them. But, all those other options, including the granyt wheel either. I don't think the op[infested]'s car had an airbag in it to start with.

Well, my post was directed at you (not the OP) because you are the one who took a Federal Safety Required piece of equipment out. Never heard of a State being able to override a Federal Required item. Otherwise, we wouldn't see The new Grant-type wheels being made with airbags. People would just yank their airbag wheels out & put in standard/old school steering wheels.Originally Posted by sw33tp34

Hello All!!
I believe it's, Airbag out = Airbag in, if you remove your Airbag steering wheel, and don't replace it with another Airbag steering wheel, your liable to be punished for an infraction against the law!!!
In otherwords, your in crap!!

If your caught!!

P.S. It's like taking out your seat belts, wrong, wrong, wrong!!!

I was saying that my state doesn't have inspections. I wasn't aware of that law. The place that sold me the wheel offered to to the swap, I guess they didn't know either.Originally Posted by Stephen

I'm trying to locate the law you are referencing. I may ask a lawyer. Thanks for the advice on that guys. I'll check it out. I still have my other wheel and airbag, if I need them.

Best news i heard all day, did you just get the wheel itself from the scrappers or the center portion too? Either way that's what i wanted from the start, thanks a bunch.Originally Posted by sw33tp34

The wheel and the center portion are one piece from the t/a I grabbed it from. Grant wheels use a hub and a wheel. Factory has the hub and wheel as one piece. I used my original column and that original wheel.Originally Posted by Infested

just bringing this back up. about the inspection, a lot of older cars dont have airbags so they wont check to see if yours is air bagged or not. atleast to my knowledge.
