How to replace this bulb?
I've got a burnt out light in my dash, it's the one that is just to the right of the cigarette lighter on the under side of the dash pad. It shines down on the a/c controls.
What I'd really like to do is replace it with a natural white or red light, and get rid of the yellow lense that is on it. Does anyone know if this is possible, or if you have to get intuitive, what did you do to make it work?
This is the light I'm talking about, see it's got a nasty yellow lense on it.
It goes in that hole on the under side of the top portion of the dash.

Re: How to replace this bulb?
I never found anyway of actually replacing the 'bulb' on the inside of that gadget either.
My idea, was to either
1) drill out the innards, and replace with a LED inside
2) Get an LED mount the same size (diameter) and replace the entire piece, that way you still have the original (although if it's not working there's not much point).
Mine still works (I think) - but I saved it - I disconnected it and spliced in wiring that lights a OEM Camaro clock that I mounted under the dash pad there - I just love the fact that there is a Camaro clock, but didn't want to forgo having a cup holder in center console, so I mounted the clock in a project box under the vents....

Re: How to replace this bulb?
Oh - my other idea for lighting up the center console area ...
I installed the overhead console. But I never use the swivel light for anything. I was thinking of rewiring that swivel light with an LED bulb that is connected in with the guage lights, so that it's lit with the rest of guages. My car is Teal, and I already have green interior lighting in the floorboards and inside the center console - so my thought was another green LED bulb just to have a 'glow' of green light on the shifter area - nothing blinding (can use pieces of cut up Mtn Dew plastic bottles to diffuse) - just a dull green glow that enables one to actually see the Ebrake, ashtray (which I've got fitted with switches), the cupholder I put in center console, etc.

Re: How to replace this bulb?
yea i got two of those in my bird and theres no easy way of replacing without having to modify a bit. cuz the lights +/- terminal wires thingies are part of the wire itself and the wire is crimped to the plastic.
id do what camaronewbie said about findind a led and somehow solder it in to the ends. i would show you mine but my cars in the shop and i dont know when she'll be back and i never took pics
