Doing a 2000 camaro dash right now, how are you guys mounting the fuse panel in the 4th gen location? I'm having a hell of a time getting the wires to reach up there and figure out how to turn the 3rd gen fuse panel to "somewhat" fit the hole.

edit: or are most of you just letting it dangle down below and having the under column panel hold it in place ?

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
I'm confused to what you are asking. Are you talking about the fuse panel on the side of dash by the door? If so, that should be the only fuse panel you need to use. If you are splicing the third gen harnes, you will need to identify the required power, ignition, etc. and splice them into the 4th gen dash harness. This has been done many times on the forum with wiring diagrams to go along with the pics.

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
no I'm keeping the stock 3rd gen fuse panel and trying to mount it in the stock 4th gen spot. Otherwise I guess I will have to locate a 4th gen fuse box and 6" of wiring or so and do that. Was just figuring some people kept the 3rd gen fuse box and used it in the 4th gen spot....maybe i'm wrong.

You won't be able to do that very easily. I would splice the 4th gen panel or find a way to mount the 3rd gen somewhere else.

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
I have an LT1 dash, but I managed to get it up there. I had to stretch and wiggle the main harness off the box to get it in the spot. It sits at a bit of an angle in there and isnt the greatest looking, but its functional. I have a 4th gen fuse box also, but decided I was so sick of wiring, I stuck with the original one. With the headlight switch, I will thumb through the sheets I printed off with the diagrams, I know I still have them somewhere and will let you know.

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
I found this off another thread. I am bored today at work.
3rd GEN -> 4th GEN ; Purpose

-Headlight Harness-
ORANGE -> ORANGE ; Taillights Fuse
RED -> RED ; Always Hot
YELLOW -> YELLOW ; Headlight Dimmer
BLACK -> BLACK ; Ground
BROWN -> BROWN ; Marker Lights
GRAY -> GRAY ; Instrument Lights

-Dimmer Harness-
BLACK/RED -> DARK GREEN ; Dimmer Output
WHITE -> (2) WHITES ; Domelight (The 4th gen switch has 2 outputs for this, so I just spliced them both into the 1 from the 3rd gen harness)
BROWN -> BROWN ; Marker Lights (Dimmer Input)
BLACK -> BLACK ; Ground

Found at thread : https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...dash-swap.html

Hope this helps you out

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
I have that list from another thread as well, unfortunately my wire colors don't match that list either. If you look at the thread I have linked, I have green,browns, and greys left to do something with. But not on both the 3rd gen plug and the 4th gen plug, so that's the question

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
here copy/pasted from my other thread:

got a few extra wires here, just wondering if anyone has done it before. 84 camaro, 98 camaro dash swap.

3rd gen-4th gen for headlight and dimmer switch
red-red
red-red
yellow-yellow
orange-orange
black-black(for both dimmer and headlight)

now for the ones i'm unsure of:

The thirdgen side has a green and a brown, the 4th gen dimmer has green, brown and grey. The 4th gen headlight has grey and brown.

The dimmer switch wires go in this order looking down the side of the 4th gen switch....green, grey, black, brown.
Which ones do I connect together then?

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
i used the 4th gen harness in my swap and still couldnt get it to stretch up to the factor spot. i ended up zip tieing it up under the dash hidden out of the way.. as for the wireing issue i would talk to pocket

Re: 4th gen dash swap...fuse panel & now headlight switch questions
I found my list and I did not have a green wire. I connected everything color for color with the exception of on the third Gen side I had a white wire that I connected to the orange wire on the tfourth Gen side. I wish I was close to where the car is in storage so I could take another look at it.

well got the headlight switch to work finally, didn't test out the dimmer switch just yet, so we'll see where we end up.
