Steering Column question
Steering Column question
I have a 91 camaro 350 auto. The steering column is shot to hell. I know how to bypass the resistor/key issue. Since my column is shot, I hate air bags, and I can bypass the resistor, would an older model steering column bolt in without any problems including the wiring?

Re: Steering Column question
you would have to check the connecting plugs. i think the air bag system has its own connectors. they should be yellow. as for the mechanics of the columns i am pretty sure that the donor column being from an earlier 3rd gen should go right into place.

Re: Steering Column question
They are all interchangable but its the features that change on them. I looked into the same thing of getting rid of the airbag and read that its a fine if your caught without it in the car and you insurance company will drop you automatically. Like I said its only what I read if its true or not needs to be seen.
Re: Steering Column question
So 6six6, your saying as long as the options are the same, cruise, wiper delay, etc etc, are all the same as an eariler 3rd gen, one will connect no problem?

Re: Steering Column question
The connectors are the same. The airbag wheel wont fit on an earlier column, though. Also the 4thgen column will fit. You could even switch to a single-key system using the guts from a '95 to '99 chevy truck door lock.
