I have an 86 IROC and I pulled up my dashmat and noticed my once perfect Dash is now cracked on driver and passenger side. Any ideas on redoing it??? I looked online and replacements are expensive. Please help.

 

i have seen a lot of people that tried to wrap it and it looks bad most of the time a couple i have seen came out nice. this is why i didn't put a mint one in my car though not sure why they crack like that yours being covered and all

Thanks MSRed91, That does help alot to know someone has done work to there dash. It looks great!!!! Now I just gotta figure out how to do it as im not that talented in fiberglass or bondo work. lol.

 

Keep an eye out on craigslist and junk yards. I picked up my mint one for $40 from a kid parting out a car. Got fog lights for $10 for the pair also.

 

Damn!!! 40 Bucks for dash and 10 for Fogs is awesome. Junkyards down here dont seem to have much dash pad wise. Havnt tried looking for foglights yet. Other than the rusted rings around the lenses, mine are fine.

I feel your pain, mine was perfect until last summer, some jerk pulled out in front of me and when I hit the brakes hard my rear view mirror came off the windsheild and cracked my dash from the defroster vent back to the window...its only about an inch,could have been worse I guess. The whole incident spun me into a seriously pissed off mood. Its a shame when your nice dash pad winds up screwed up and replacments are too expensive.

 

better then mine...i have 2 cracks from since i bought it...1 is driver side front to back and destroyed speaker grille and some on pass side..fml..but i found a guy who has new condition used pads for 179$

 

i paid $10 for my mint dash pad, looks brand new, clean it and armorall it ever week, kid didnt know much bout camaros but is parting it out to me, i grabed all the interior plastics for $40, the grill for $5, pioneer speakers for $20, shifter assembly for $15, whole mess of stuff

 

bought one for my old 88 that i had, MINT for 60 from a car meet down in miami. some guy had a totaled IROC so he brought a bunch of peices and that was one. he wanted 100, i talked him down to 60 just keep an eye out, you'll find something cheaper then $350.00!

 

go to classifieds, then go to interior parts for sale, just saw a Mint one for sale for $150

FWIW, I used a dashpad cover that had to be glued on with silicone and it came out well enough for the $120 I paid for it. The dashpad underneath the cover in the pics is in real rough shape.

 

riffy where did you get your cover from? my dash has a couple of cracks too and they are bugging me. I saw a thread on here where a guy did his in leather i believe.

 

I got my cover off of ebay. It was from a seller called 1a automotive. Just make sure after you silicone it that you clampt it together overnight so it has time to dry all the way.

Yes it does. The ones I seen I didnt like cause of the speaker grills that just looked like they just drilled a bunch of holes. But that looks almost perfect with the way our spear grills are.

 

that cover turned out way better than i thought it would.

 

Just keep an eye out for a used one in great shape. I went this route a few years ago and paid about $150 and it still looks new.

 

so what are the tell tell signs it is just a cover. does it cover the whole top of the dash pad. does it cover the whole front piece. are there any places that it doesnt cover that show up or does it pretty much cover all the top really well.

 

These dash Pad CAPS.. What about the Daylight Sensor under the dash on the passenger side? None seem to have an opening and I would think it would mean your lights would be ON all the time while driving; even in the summer sun...

 

theres third gens that have that?? because i know for a fact, mine dosent.
