Re: Spare Tire Air

I didnt know it could be refilled... I just bought one on ebay (New, reproduction.) for $35.00. I keep thinking if I had a flat, I would be pacing back and forth, saying: "Man! Just paid good money for this can!... Maybe someone with an air compressor will come along... yeah... I'll just wait..." LOL.

I thougt they were filled with co2...or something other than air. I mean the can doesn't have much volume. Always thought they were a one time use thing. I squirle away all the good ones I come across.

Cheap, little 12V compressor. Slow but problem solved.

Re: Spare Tire Air

There was a thread concerning the refill some time ago. IIRC, someone mentioned taking the can to a shop that refilled fire extinguishers. A search might find the info you're looking for.

Bottom line: Even if you had the means to inflate a 20+ year old spare, would you actually chance using it?

Re: Spare Tire Air

I've also heard that you can take it to a place that fills fire extinguishers to have it refilled. Take it to a place that does that and see what they say. I had to use mine a quite a few years ago but never had a chance to get it refilled. Best bet would be to carry a little 12 volt air compressor in the car incase you would need to use the spare.

Re: Spare Tire Air

If it were me, I'd snag a $10 mini air pump from WalMart to keep on hand, and then keep the can because it's original (but not use it).

Re: Spare Tire Air

YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET IT REFILLED AT A PAINT BALL GUN REFILL STAITION, BUT I AM CARRYING A SMALL COMPRESSOR EVEN THOUGH MY CAN IS FULL CAUSE I DON'T KEEP CHECKING IT EVERYTIME I GO FOR A SPIN

Re: Spare Tire Air

I guess the can is nice to have because its original but could not see myself driving around with out a mini -compressor and a tire repair kit.
