Headliner is foam backed - the foam deteriorates over time - no way to 'fix' it.
You have to remove the headliner piece (very carefully cause it's easily broken), strip all the material off the headliner backing, remove all the dead foam (just rub it with hands and vacuum), then glue new fabric of your choice to the headliner - use headliner spray glue available most any parts store.

Re: Head Liner falling down
I rebuilt my own headliner for about $30. Not as good as a professional shop, but definitely an upgrade, I used o have fiber glass falling in to my eyes when I went over speed bumps lol
I went to home depot and bought some foam backing board($7)
and cut it to match the headliner.
I then wrapped it in fabric from Joanna's (3 yards $15, had enough left over to wrap the sail panels too) make sure to use 3M Super 77 glue ($6)
Installed it, the foam board compresses very easily and is stiff so it looks pretty good.

Stapler it if you are looking for a bandaid fit. Otherwise do a seach ... I lost count of all the replies I posted on this subject. Once a Headliner starts to fall it like rain in Georgia, it keeps falling.

Lay the fabric over the cardboard and cut it leaving about an inch of overhang all around. Fold half the fabric back and spray the glue on the fabric and cardboard. Let the glue tack for about 10-15 minutes before folding the fabric back over the cardboard. Work from the center our and smooth the fabric into all the curves and fold the excess over the back side. Repeat for other half.

Re: Head Liner falling down
I'm gonna fix mine with an overhead console
Mine's only sagging in the center, and being a t-top car there's not much else to see if an overhead console is installed.

Re: Head Liner falling down
@scootermunch It took to shaping surprisingly well, not as flexible as the original backing but its very easy to work with. I used the headliner for my T-top car, it had C&C tops so buying one of those ABS ones wasn't really an option (didnt want to have to cut a $200 headliner and risk screwing it up). I've had the headliner in my car for about a year now without any trouble at all

Re: Head Liner falling down
I wish you guys that did your head liners yourselves, would post pics.
I did mine but didn't turn out that great. I watched about 10 youtube video's first.
Went and got the stuff and did exactly what i watched. Not as easy as they make it look. Luckily I have another head liner to try again. I just don't like the idea of taking all the plastic pieces out, don't want to brake the door trim clips when I take the liner off. And mine are in mint condition. But I will have to do it soon.
