Turn signal stalk interchange?

Something I have been thinking about for a while:

What other GM turn signal stalks are compatible with our cars? When I drive my '05 chevy trailblazer, i think about it a lot. In the trailblazer the turn signal does not make a "Snap" when I use it. Also the wipers are on a "Ring", instead of the whole thing turning.

Lastly; I remember back in the '90's I had a 1992 buick regal GS and it had a grey turn signal stalk...

And, Yes, I searched....

i dont think youre going to get rid of the way that there is a stiff click for the blinker switch unless you swap out the steering column. otherwise if you want just a different stalk i think that yoiu can swap a 4th gen in

Re: Turn signal stalk interchange?

Our cars, and most older GMs, use a stalk. You can just pull it out. The only electronics in the switches are the cruise control switches for cars with cruise. Otherwise, everything is in the column.

On newer cars, the signal stalks are more like modules. When you replace them, you usually split the column covers, and remove the stalk and module together.

So unless you do a column swap somehow, or do some real custom work, you're out of luck. You could possibly modify the actual signal switch to soften up the sound, but you could mess things up if you arent careful.

Yes, the stalk just pulls out. But that's not what's causing the snap. The problem is that the turn signal switch has all of the grease dryed out, or something is broken inside.

Re: Turn signal stalk interchange?

This style of turn signal switch is almost always going to "snap"... It tends to lose its "snap" as it gets worn....but unfortunately can start to malfunction by then too.

I know exactly what you mean OP... The sound it makes is almost cheap. Compared to even my 2001 Jeep, which has a soft, satisfying engagement sound, it sounds pretty harsh.

There just isnt a whole lot you can do about it. Grease does help. But its never going to feel like a newer car does. All you can do is lube it up, maybe ad some thin felt pads on the plastic to plastic contact points...Just dont do anything that can cause your signals to not work, or something else to go wonky in your column.
