Need some trunk help! PLEASE!

Okay, so yesterday I was getting something out of my 91 RS. Something was in the way of the trunk closing and the latch inside the car went down without the door. So when I try to close the trunk, the latch is already down and the trunk lid just smacks the latch. I Have the trunk hatch all ghetto rigged, holding it down with bungie cables.. I try to turn the lock under the back license plate, and it still won't let the latch come up. I don't know how to go about fixing this.. PLEASE HELP!

Re: Need some trunk help! PLEASE!

When you unlocked it again did the latch release and open up properly?

Might have to take the trim screws off the rear plate, unbolt the little brake light plate, and unclip it to remove the back trim piece to get a closer look. I know on my '90 the pull-down will go until it trips a little black lever on the housing, which I assume changes the direction to let the worm drive spin the other way to raise it.

What ever you don't go slamming on the pull-down unit or trying to force it. You'll just end up breaking the plastic housing where the screws mount. Then you'll be either JB Welding it or putting a new plastic housing back together.

No, It's still down inside the car. I tried to unlock it, but it stays down as if the trunk was closed, even though the trunk lid is still open. It's not coming up to recieve the trunk to close it. The light back there is on and everything

I'd say pull the plastic trim on the rear hatch. It will only take 5-10 minutes and you'll be able to see the whole pull-down unit. Sounds like the reversing switch did not toggle to me, which should happen if the unit goes all the way down. Toggle is the little black lever at about the 3 o'clock position in the picture. As lon's site says "GM 20614880 reversing switch. This switch is mounted to the clear plastic motor housing with a single Phillips-head screw. The switch provides power to the motor and reverses polarity to the motor. It is also responsible to shut off the up or down cycle of the pull-down unit. "

Okay, I got in there. Now how do I flip the toggle? I don't see it on my car. Or if it's there its inaccessible.

you cant flip it, you need to buy a new one, its at the bottom, a pigtail is plugged into it, unplug it then remove and get a new one

To bring the pull down to the up position, try sticking your finger down the hatch pull down and press the switch until it returns to the up position. Don;t worry, nothing is going to grab your finger.

Stick a screw driver in their on the top, that should hit the switch to allow it to come back up.
