Power window issues...

Power window issues...

Hi, I have a 92 RS that has been having window problems; in researching I've found several different solutions but mine sounds like motor problems (the driver side window will move, but only little bits at a time). So I'm wondering if my best bet would be to get a new motor (found some ACDelco ones online) and have a shop install it? Oh, and the passenger side just goes down so far and stops completely... so two motors? lol With summer coming on I want to get this fixed asap.

Any advice would be appreciated... thanks!!

The issue could be the motors, but before jumping to that conclusion, try to clean and relube the tracks, etc. You might have a pleasant surprise and if not, there's always replacement.

And I wouldn't pay a shop to install - it's a 20 minute project in the driveway. Do a for the word "bogus" and you'll find a thread explaining it all with templates and everything - it's very easy!

Haha that was gonna be my next question! I was concerned about doing an install myself, if it was going to be a real involved project or what, since this car is my daily driver. But it sounds like something that could be done on a weekend... awesome.

I was having problems too. Got the voltmeter out and found out I wasn't getting any power to the motor. Voltage going to the switch, wire between the switch and motor ok, but no voltage to the motor when the switch was pressed. Reason? Window switch was dead.

I replaced both switches from Classic Industries. Everything works perfect now.

I did replace the window motors after though just because I had them. It's very, very easy to do. Drill 3 holes in the door 'frame,' drill out pop rivets, install new ones = done!

i'm about to tackle the pass. side once I order the motor..going to follow the directions that I found here...gonna check/clean my switches beforehand,but I'm 99% its my motor...the lube trick didnt work,so I'll try everything...nervous about the 3 hole deal,but gonna give it a shot...

Follow the directions...did the template fix on my 02, took me about 2.5 hrs. MUCH easier than doing the "remove the regulator with it and hope it doesn't slice your arm off when the motor comes out" method that I did on the 91, which also took a lot longer. Not to mention the regulator tore up all the mounting holes on the door on that car, so I'm gonna have to the regulator welded to the door now.

MUCH easier/safer/faster/cost effective to do it the template way.

ordered the motors..figured I'd do both,but 1st the passenger side..gonna try the template deal..do you still have to clamp/prop the window if doing this way?...
