84 berlinetta seats

have been sitting out in my garage since the mid 90s, i havent been out to look at them in quite awhile and was wondering if just sitting in storage can mess seats up at all, the last time i was out there about 4 yrs ago they seamed fine if not a little dirty, but if the foam would collapse or anything from the two front ones sitting on the rear seat in advance for the help, i plan on either getting a berlinetta i saw at a local lot with a trashed interior and swapping them in or puttin them in my bird because these are power seats and mine are kinda showing age, plus i like the way they look more that the bird seats

Re: 84 berlinetta seats

I've had my original cloth 87-92 GTA seats sitting in my garage since 2005. Took the passenger seat inside back in November, and have been using it regularly as a seat for driving simulation games since then.

Other than the "garage smell", they're fine. No rapid deterioration, foam rotting, or anything like that. Of course I did have them covered in plastic, so I'm sure that helped a bit. That garage probably gets 120+ degrees inside during the summer.

hey thanks if worst come to worst and they are messed up (one of the windows in the garage is broken shouldn't be a problem although its been broken for years) anyway if there bad i can always order replacement covers form npd or oem or something like that, however those seats have a certain family history, they were in my mothers berlinetta when i was brought home from the hospital in it, and then in her 82 camaro with a 350 (not at all stock) and that was our car until about 2000, and its there in the garage they have sat ever since my dad took them out

Re: 84 berlinetta seats

Might as well try and save them if you can then -- also I've heard that 100% correct replacement covers are not available, so more reason to keep them original if you can.

This definitely applies in my case, as I don't think cloth covers are being reproduced at all for GTA seats. I've got leather in my 02, which I'm starting to wish was cloth also...stupid wrinkles. You'd think that monthly applications of Lexol would've kept the wrinkles off, but I guess not.

Re: 84 berlinetta seats

well original is what i need, there is a semi large tear/rip in the drivers side top part of the seat, you know wear they all seem to rip at some point, other than that they bolted in easy and cleaned up good, all i had was a shopvac, i do need to scrub them down a bit and get the dirt all out of them, anyone got a great way to get them clean really good

Really depends on the condition of the seats...I never had an 80s-90s GM car with non-velour cloth seats that didn't eventually dry out and start tearing. Safest thing to do is spot clean/carefully scrub the stains, and maybe a light coating/rubbing of a quality carpet cleaner (Resolve or similar). Again, test in small unseen areas before doing a whole seat. Have yet to properly clean my GTA seats.

Nice find! I got mine at the ol' Pull-a-Part out of an 85-86 Firebird. My original was of course Florida sun-worn, and consequently completely torn off at the top. Slightly different gray than the rest of the seats, but I guess I can always dye to match. Probably just keep an eye out for a matching one in the meantime though. I figure I'd spend $15 on dye, or $30 for a used seat from Pull-a-Part if a later car comes in, so I guess I'll just wait.

hey someone was reading, anyway i was misinformed there are no back seats i went out and looked, and there nowhere to be found, shame too because i love the pattern on these seats and having all four matching, evn if the drivers seat is ripped slightly would have been great, and noe the question does anyone have the back seat to an 84 berlinetta in light charcoal and good enough condition, how much??? , or will the covers for that seat fit on my stick firebird back seat? if i can find some
