Odometer reset
Hi all,
I have the 145 MPH cluster in my 86 Z28. I just installed a new crate motor and I was wondering if it's possible to reset the odometer to zero. This would be nice for keeping overall mileage on the motor.
The unit in the car is the 5 digit and tenths counter. Currently it reads 05xxx.x, so it most likely has already rolled over 1 or 2 times and is inaccurate. I'm not sure if the unit in my car is mechanical or electrically driven though.
I don't plan on selling the car, and even if I do the title reads 999,999 mileage (my state's way of saying mileage not accurate"), so I'm not worried there.
Any help and advice is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Odometer reset
Not a good Idea to do it but yes it can be done.
I have changed speedos before from 120 to a 140. what I have done is take a pic of each of them seperate and together, for my records.
Just make sure you document it.
I can also have a St cop buddy of mine do some paperwork on them 4 me. He'll come over watch me do the work and then document it also.
Gov'ment likes a bunch of paperwork sooooo bury them with it if its ever a issue !!!!!

Re: Odometer reset
If its a 5 digit odo you are rolling it forward, not rolling it back. If the car is 10 years old or older there should be no reason not to do it.

I read something about how you need to put a sticker in the door with the original reading, new reading, date, etc for it to be legal. Might have been in a shop manual. That way it's documented, and you cant forget to transfer the documentation with the car if sold.

Re: Odometer reset
With the age of the car the mileage would be exempt on the title anyway, so "rolling it back" for restoration purposes shouldn't be a problem with title transfer issues
