Re: Cup holders

thanks david for the post & pics. . this is the best set-up i could think up with no hacks , holes in anything . just use of existing screws . i am very happy with my set-up . if you look at original part it was fabricated from , i put masking tape on it to show what/where to cut away . the front mount is the stock console screw . the rear is also stock console screw with a short tab to secure . cost $7.50 for wedgie cup holder , fine hacksaw blade , sandpaper to smooth edges , small 1/8" drill bit , one of the cheapest & best mods. i have done to my car . looks almost factory , function perfect . who said an OLD DAWG can't come up with new tricks . cheers !!!

Re: Cup holders

Really great idea Tom! I've had those wedgie holders in my car for months and i've never thought of this. One question though, what did you use on the back screw hole? it looks as though you bridged it with something so it would reach the factory screw hole.

Re: Cup holders

Looks like it works pretty good. I have the same cup holder and it gets in the way when i have a passenger. Might have to look into doing this as well.
Thanks for the idea.

Re: Cup holders

I was using the wedgie between the seat and console for a few years so decided to try this also. Here is my mock-up of the modified wedgie. Used 1/2" all purpose strapping with screws/nuts/washers to hang the holders, again by the console screws. Shot the viewable strap and screw with tremclad semi-gloss. Are sitting in font of the console vents but it is 90+ degrees and car does not have air. That travel mug is 20oz and is in a very comfortable position that leaves the gear selector, radio and vent/heat controls unblocked. Do have a new wedgie ready to cut and will do more work on the cut edges of that.

Re: Cup holders

Wow i really like this idea how exactly is it holding did u screw it into the cinsole or is it just some kind of double sided tape. I wanna do this to mine since that's the main thing I hate having to hold my drink while driving.

Re: Cup holders

I am using the front console plate scew to hang the holder. Cut/trim your wedgie; cut length of strapping; drill holes in holder through holes in strap; screw holder to strap; stick foam tape to strap to protect vent/keep from rattling; paint exposed strap and screw; install in said location. Works great. Next thing is where to put loose change etc now that we have removed centre part of wedgie.

Re: Cup holders

I used the left over plastic to make my brackets. It doesnt look the greatest but works very well.

Re: Cup holders

Your right it does look like a cleaner fit. I think when i first saw your post I was in a hurry to try it out. Its a cheap cup holder so like you said I will have to try another one. Thanks for the idea.

Re: Cup holders

I've done quite well w/o cup holders since 1986, I don't drink in my car so I don't need them, but thanks for the 411 anyway.
