what do you think of my dash and interior.....
in a quest to have a nice interior thirdgen i decided to update my dash.. im not interested in the stock bland looking dash.. i dyed the whole console and dash black because i didnt like the stock gray look on some pieces and black on others... have a nice wood dash kit that brings out the beechwood interior very nicely... i still need to recover all seats because they are badly faded and same goes for the carpet.. what do you think...

At first I didn't like it, but then seeing the door panels, seats, and carpet I realized it's a good fit!

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
yea it will look alot better with new carpet and seats... and trust me the dash looks alot better in person. i have had people look into my car and they were surprised on how nice the dash looks... my car needs paint and they all said that they were shocked that the interior looks so nice while the paint on my car is badly faded... i will paint the car in a few years after im done with all my engine/tranny/rear and interior mods are done.. all the seats and carpet look kinda whitish... the sun faded it so badly that it doesnt look goldish/tan anymore.. i want to get them recovered close to stock color but a little bit darker tan in color.. same with the carpet..

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
thank you very much project... at first i wanted to swap to black interior but then i wanted to keep the beechwood interior because it matches my gold gta wheels and all the gold badging.... i must say the maroon exterior/gold interior really goes well together..

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
i bought those.... they are white face gauges.. i had to take apart each gauge and put them on.... they look pretty neat at night with blue led lights.. i didnt care for the orange dim lit lights at night plus i have a trans temp gauge that was blue at night and had white face gauges... since my favorite color is blue and and the radio and autometer gauge lit up blue i said hey minus well make the rest of the gauges blue and red.....

Looks like it was done well. Just not my cup of tea. I think these cars are supposed to look all business, not luxurious. I love the way they look stock.

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
i understand where your coming from..... i had a all stock interior and it was an no frills type deal for sure... imo it just looked to bland... i wanted to brighten it up and make it look alittle more classy considering the gta had all the "luxury" features... i want my car to look nice and be fast at the same time.. it only worked out for my because my interior color flows well with it... any other color would not look right...

I agree. And it's not like you really added any weight. On top of that, it could be pulled off if you wanted as well. But like I said, it looks like it was done properly.

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
Looks very well done.
I just have a few issues with:
The switches above the A/C. The brighter ones look very much out of place. I know this is how they look stock, but it would look better if they were black or tan.
The glove compartment lid. I believe that's a 4th gen lid? I really prefer the boxy 3rd gen one over this one. It looks as if it curled up for some odd reason and now nolonger fits properly.
You left a piece of equipment on top of the fuel tank area. There's some wires going to it and stuff. Looks very much out of place in such a clean interior.
Other then that, thumbs up!

yea i always wanted to change those to black but i dont know how to change that.... i hated the gray color in this car..... i dont know how to change that black and making it neat looking...
thats a stock third gen lid... that came stock in my car.... the camaro's had the boxy glove compartment... the later firebirds had the exact same one i have pictured..
lol yea i have to figured something out with that.. its my amp and i haven't decided on how to hide that.... i was thinking about putting it under the panel that i made in the back.. hmmmm i guess i just answered my own question...

Was your console lid recovered? It looks kinda weird like it has ripples in it or something.

LOoks good to me. The only thing I don't like is the wood dash kit. I just don't like those in any car.

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
if you can remove those grey switches (or mask off everything else) a light coat of aerosol bedliner will match the rest of the dash texture.
I'm assuming the texture on the firebirds is the same griany look as the camaro. it's been too long since I was in a firebird, can't remember

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
For a classy interior, there are too much stuff imo. The white gauges look completely out of place with the wood trim. It's a mix of black, wood, white, shades of grey and tan, add to that the blue backlighting of the gauge...that's a mess, there's WAAAAY too many colors.
To look good, there should be a maximum of two or three colors, not counting the chrome trim or black of some small parts. If you look at luxury/classy cars interior, it's generally how they are. It has to be more subtle.
The sporty steering wheel doesn't fit here either.
If I bought your car just like it is now, I would go back with black gauges and A/C controls, get a nice leather steeing wheel (maybe a camel tan one), change to a more discrete radio and hide the amp under the panel in the trunk.
You could also paint or cover the plastic panels under the dash controls in tan like early S/Es.
I'm a little surpised to hear a professional did the speaker covers. It's a very simple panel with a concave curve, there shouldn't be that many ripples on the cover if he glued it correctly.
Here's a classy interior for example, it has the same color code as yours :

I count three colors : tan, a bit of black, and the wooden trim
Hope it helps

i see your point... but when it comes down to it i like how it looks.... the pictures shown dont really showcase the interior well.... the woodgrain looks really really nice in person, you cant even begin to see the detail that my camera can capture... i already hidden the amp in my updated pictures... i know i have good taste.... i know some people will like it and others will hate it.... thats the beauty of things.... i did this to the way i like it and i wanted to see what everyone thought....

For your dash mat, is it made of carpet? And is it thick?
Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
I applaud the effort. Stuff like that takes time and it's personal tastes. I removed the faux wood trim and dash kit form my 89 when I was restoring it.
Now, those seats remind of something.........now what could it be? Oh yeah, I remember

Looks cool. I really appreciate the work you have put in to clean up the one area where the car is weak for a design perspective.
While I don't think the look would work on a Formula or an Iroc, one a full tilt luxury GT like the GTA, it is very nice.

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
White gauge face, black gauge ring, tan top. I'm not feeling it. I'd pull the gauge cover off & paint the black portion a tan to match the cover.
I actually don't like the tan cover, but with what you have now, getting rid of the black might help it flow together a bit better.

Re: what do you think of my dash and interior.....
I very much love the look, I was thinking of doing the same with the white face gauges. Much easier than changing out all of them and make a new dash, which I would love to do. And I was thinking about the dash wood kit, but with grey interior, I don't know..But I plan on pulling the wheel out of my bird and putting a large Grant woodgrain one in, so maybe it would work. I don't know. But very nice!
And what other gauges do you have? I have an all stock bird, but I like to add some gauges but I already have the necessary ones, what else would you put in there?
