Camaro to Firebird Wheel Swap

Soo I love my 91 Bird, but I hate the stock steering wheel. It's so thick and just uncomfortable. The one thing I really miss about my '88 Camaro was the wheel, it was nice. Would a wheel from a Camaro be able to take the place of the one i have now?? If so, what would I need to get it installed?

Re: Camaro to Firebird Wheel Swap

the same splines were used across quite a few gm vehicles, so fit should be ok. however, in case i'm remembering wrong, your 91's got an airbag and the 88 doesn't. If that's the case, you may not pass inspections due to the removal of mandatory safety equipment.

Keep a firebird wheel on it. I like this style from the earlier third gen 'birds:

Did the same thing with my '91. The earlier steering wheel is a direct fit, just clip the horn wire on, match up the splines, tighten down the nut, and you're good to go. You will have to clip the yellow airbag wire to get the wheel on, but otherwise it's very straight forward.

OK 88, the inst. panel red inserts are really cool.
How was that accomplished?

I can't comment on anyone else, but I had to trim about 1/8" of material off the bottom of my early 'Bird wheel I put on my '91 'Bird to not have it rub on the column.

Here is a bad one. If you look close you can see I didn't get it quite level at the top.
Someday I'll do another and be a little more careful.
