Re: why so hot?
Might be the fact you're sitting about two feet from an engine running at temps between 160-250 degrees. That and even if it isn't running the sun's rays still come through your windows and the photons bounce around and heat things up. Silly electromagnetic radiation. Black interiors also don't reflect the light as well as, say, white interiors so it tends to absorb that heat anyway. Combination of factors, probably. We'll need more pics of the miniskirt to be certain. ;-) just kidding.

Re: why so hot?
Large glass both front and rear - radiates sunlight all day, and restricts airflow through the car even with windows down - the rear hatch "collects" all the air, and the windows down just pushes it forward.
On hot hot days, I pop the hatch lid, and let the hot air out before I leave. I also have T-tops, lets all the rising heat out. I park in the shade or I don't park at all, and I use windshield screens when I just don't have any choice.
If you do not have a heater diverter valve (some cars had it, some not), then hot coolant is circulating through the heater core always, adding slightly to the temps.
And then, there's the tranny forcing 200 degree air up through the centert console area.
Owning a "hot" car just means you'll be hot in it.

Re: why so hot?
I had this problem for awhile in one of my Camaros. I took out the center console and used some thick insulation. That solved that but it was still warm in the car. Come to find out the air duct vent door wasnt closing when off and like Camaronewbie said. Hot air was circulating all the time. Fixed that problem also and its nice and cool inside now. No heat blowing up my skirt when its 110 degrees out

Re: why so hot?
Is this a factory untouched car or do you have any mods? You didn't mention.. Some problems that I've faced myself was not running a heater control valve, as such there was always coolant flowing through the heater core, even with the hvac switched off heat will still find its way into the pass compartment. Also are you positive your blend air door closes and seals completely when the selector is all the way to cold? Keep in mind even if the door works properly it still has a foam weatherstrip seal around its edges to help seal off air flow to only travel the selected path. As old as our cars are its very rare they are still fully intact if at all.

Re: why so hot?
Also our hvac controls are controlled by engine vaccum (vent position defaults to defrost if there is a malfunction such as a vac leak, not sure about the blend door but I think it defaults to mid way).

Re: why so hot?
U can easily replicate it in a car with 4 doors, only put down two windows and drive around, then just crack a 3rd and the air flow is doubled and much cooler.
Air just doesn't have anywhere to go in these cars. There is no escape for it, so it doesn't flow well through it.
Though I have also solved this problem by adding some vents.
But I put then in the sail pannel, see link in sig.

I'm guessing you removed your air conditioning system?
