Why would interior courtesy lights not come on when you open passenger door?
They all work when open the driver's door. but nothing comes on when you open the passenger door. What should I be looking for?

I'd test the switch itself.

Re: Why would interior courtesy lights not come on when you open passenger door?
Curiosity led me to my shop manual:
CIRCUIT OPERATION
Voltage is applied at all times through the ACC FUSE to the components in the circuit. The COURTESY LIGHTS, CIGAR LIGHTER, and the DOME and READING LIGHTS each use separate switches. The LH and RH COURTESY LIGHTS and one of the DOME and READING LIGHTS can be operated by current flow through either the LIGHT SWITCH to G200 or through any DOOR JAMB SWITCH to ground.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
If none of these components work, check fuse by operating HORN.
If several circuits don't work, check G200 (Behind I/P, left of steering column). G200 should be a thick black ground.

Charlie, replace the button switch in the door jam on the pass. side. They are cheap, like 5 bucks or less. Those switchs frequently go bad. It is probably stuck in the closed position. Even if the button moves in and out the internal contact in the switch get's stuck in the closed position from not being used very often. That's why you are having the problem on the pass. side. How often do you think that pass door has been used on a car that sat for 10 years.
It's super easy to change.
Also, do you have a test light or meter?

Here's a pic, which may help you visualize. Note that the pass side switch has been discontinued.

Re: Why would interior courtesy lights not come on when you open passenger door?
Ok tools needed are
1 7/16 deepwell socket with Ratchet
Step 1
Pull ACC fuse.
Step 2
Place a 7/16 deep socket over the nut head on the outside of the switch in the door jam and just unscrew it from the body of the car. There is only one white wire connected to the switch and it is just held on with a standard automotive female connector. There is NO ground wire. The switch grounds directly to the body of the car.
To check power to the wire reinsert the ACC fuse. The white wire has a constant 12 volts going to it. If you have no power at the white wire then you have a wiring problem. If you do have power then it is just the switch.
Also the driver side switch listed in Modern Muscles site is the correct switch. Can be used on the driver or pass side. The only difference between the two switchs is the driver side switch has an extra male terminal on it. I have a drivers side switch in my pass side right now.
Here is some pics. Hope that helps,

That switch is available through GM PARTS DIRECT P/N 9662505 RH and also 9662504 LH. I would assume that it doesn't matter if it's a Pontiac or a Chevy, those nos.are for Pontiac.

The switch just required some vigorous exercise and WD40. It seems to be working again. Thanks guys!

Clean the door jamb switch. It switches ground when you open the door completing the circuit. I end up cleaning mine usually when cold weather comes around. That's when they quit working. I check it by grabbing it and wiggling it lol and if the lights flicker then you know it's a bad connection.

Re: Why would interior courtesy lights not come on when you open passenger door?
My driver side switch plunger works but does not turn on the interior lights but the passenger side does. All my other electronics work too. I even plugged in a new door jam switch and it made no difference so I should be looking for a black ground wire to my fuse box?
