Repainted the plastics

Well, yesterday/today I repainted the plastics black... Wish the dude that had the car before me would have left them grey but guess we all cant win... Did however determine that I was WELL worth the effort! Looks great IMO.. Now just need a headliner and the plastic piece that is on the drivers side door seal...

Yes, I couldnt find the semi-flat in the plastic paints... Believe me, I looked at Home Depot, Lowes and 5 auto parts stores around town...

Re: Repainted the plastics

SEM Landau Black is without a doubt the best black plastic interior paint available. I've got painted center console parts right on top of unpainted and you can't see a difference.

SEM is idiot proof. I just sprayed my center console top with Landau black and low luster clear. It's unbelievable how nice and flat it dries.

Re: Repainted the plastics

Brake fluid will take all the paint off and won't harm the plastic. I stripped the center console top with it.
Check out this thread. I followed it and my plastics came out like new.

If you find a color in the SEM brand you like, go with it. Besides the Landau black, I am pretty sure they make a flat black. Landau black has a slight sheen to it. Remember - it is all in the prep work. If you clean and prep the panels rignt, and use an adhesion promoter, the paint will never come off.

Re: Repainted the plastics

I reread your post. If you just want to strip them to the original color, use the brake fluid. It should take it right off, and leave the plastic in good shape.

I attempted this a few months back and it left a white residue/discoloration on Grey interior pieces.

Re: Repainted the plastics

Did you notice if the plastics were faded? If they painted over faded, chalky plastics, it would look like that when you strip it. I used it on ABS plastic and it worked fine. Most, if not all the interior panels are ABS. Test it on an inconspicuous spot. I can tell you that fading= dry rot= throw the panel away. I had to replace almost every panel in my car because of it.

Great info... Might try it later on... Hell, I might just replace all of them anyway.

Re: Repainted the plastics

I painted my plastics with truck undercoating from Menards. They used to be red and came out amazing.
