Checking Out Seat Covers

no, not the kind you see at meijer..

I've got some material samples coming from Classic Industries and Hawks for the madrid vinyl.

Anybody use these covers before? Just looking for some reviews on fitment / quality.

Re: Checking Out Seat Covers

I got the Hampton vinyl ones from Hawks and they look like leather. Really nice. The fit and finish was excellent. And I have the GTA seats with the lumbar side bolsters. Very happy with them. I haven't seen the CI ones so I have no idea on those.

Good to know! How long have you had them on the car? Any signs of wear?

I've only had them for about 6 months so no wear whatsoever. I still have tennis elbow though from removing all those factory hog rings. Not kidding. It was brutal.

Meh, maybe I'm the only one, but I'm not a big fan of the cover girl's work. Every picture on her website shows creases and wobbly seams.

Ruckusz28, are you looking for drop on seat covers? or something more custom? I would give the Hawks covers a shot. Their reproduction products are top notch in my experience.

Creases and wobbly seams???????????? Are you blind? I have never had anybody not like my work. I agree I don't have the best digital camera, but alot of times, the camera makes seams look crooked when they are not. You can't get a seat cover to look perfect just laying on the floor. It has to be on the seat and tight to fit without any creases or seams. I have more people on here and other sites that love my work than don't. That was a pretty shi**y comment! If I did your interior, I guarantee you would like my work when you saw it in person.

Re: Checking Out Seat Covers

I have never seen hear work in person, bit ALL leather seat covers have those pleats and such that look lose. Unless you send in your seat and have them fitted to your seat that's just the way it is. Every seat is different. Some peoples asses are bigger then others, therefor seat wears differently.

Insulting me isn't going to win any new customers.

I'm sorry but that is how I feel. There is some nice stuff on your site, but to many of the installed pictures show creases or wobbly seams. Example:

Now did you install the covers on those seats? or were those done by the owners? If done by the owners, then sure the fault may be in the installation. Hard to say. Not everyone should be doing their own upholstery.

Ok, how about a trial order. Something cheap and easy. Lets say a pair of sun shades in charcoal alcantara, color 9002 with black stitch. I'll even pay double your asking price. If I like them I'll pimp them here and take high quality pictures. If I don't I'll send them back for a refund. Sound like a deal?

I disagree completely. Did your OEM seats have pleats like that? No, and you can be sure they weren't fitted to the seats.

For comparison here is a set of Recaro seats I just had recovered by JJ Custom interior in Tacoma, WA. They are Recaro specialists, but to the OP it might be worth talking to them.

Even with large high quality photos, I dare you to find an imperfection. There are some, but you need a microscope to see them.

I'm NOT trying to win new customers nor am I trying to insult you either.Just stating what I think. I do not see anything wrong with the seats you have pictured here and yes I installed the covers. When you use leather or ultra leather, your going to get creases no matter what unless you put foam under the sections you don't want creases in and then you still have the chance that the covers are going to have creases in certain places because of the fabric. It also depends on the shape and depth of the foam cushion as well.
The Alcantar is $140.00 per yard, so that is out of the question unless your buying the Alcantara. I understand you cannot please everybody and some people are **** about certain things as well.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Please remember, she mostly does covers without installation. Typically creases are a function of foam and padding rather than pattern/stitching. You may want to see her work in person before relying on a picture. I can assure you that my covers are without wobbly seams....and I had everything double top stitched.

And it begins...

Sorry to the OP, apparently I started a firestorm.

Its all in the pictures dude. She said she installed the covers, not the customers. Can you not see the ripples and wobbly lines?

I am glad you are happy with your purchase. Must of her customers are. How about posting up some pictures of your seats to help out the OP.

I will let the pictures do the talking.

Re: Checking Out Seat Covers

Wow!

I used Mr. Mikes leather kit for my seats and door panels in the 91. I installed them in my living room and they turned out amazing. I was more than satisfied with the end result. I would 100% recommend his covers to anyone will to pay his leather prices.

http://www.mrmikes.com/

I can honestly say that for my convertible I WILL be using Covergirls covers no matter what happens here. I have spoke with others that have installed her covers, and seen the pictures enough to know that these will suit my needs, and my wallet. Covergirls prices are more than fair for the quality I have seen.

Mr Mikes is a really good suggestion. His stuff looks really good. I almost pulled the trigger with him for a set of covers for some Fiero seats I have laying around.

If I recall he provides a nice instructional video on how to get them to fit correctly?

I have nothing against the covergirl. In fact I just tried to buy sun visors off her for double her normal price. I just think she could really up her game with a little more care and a better camera.

I think I want your fiero seats... Have Mr. Mikes cut me up a matching set for the fiero Hmmmm Yeah they did come with a sweet VHS that I actually think I lost some years ago during moves, or something. Very high quality stuff. I was actually the first car he had ever done my color combo for...

There is a set on ebay right now in the opposite of my color combo...

Re: Checking Out Seat Covers

JJs has the seats the cover. They usually rebuild them. Stock seats are all brand new foam. So I don't think the issues with what you see in the co ergirls work is the actually sewing bit the seats them selves were crappy to begin with. It's like painting a car with dents in it. No matter how good the painter is still gonna look like ****.

That is true. But the covergirl says she did the install on the seats pictured above. I will point out that JJ only uses new foam when necessary. So most of the time the foam is reused. My seat pictured above is from a mid-80's 911 with original foam.

Take a look at the mr mike website. He deals with old torn up fiero seats all the time. But his customers don't seem to have any trouble getting them to look good.

Yes I know I have to much faith in humanity. Where an honest opinion is struck down as cheap and uneducated. REALLY??? What kind of education do you need to look at a picture? I am an amateur photographer. If a fault shows up in a 400 pixel photo from 10ft away, its going to show up in real life too. You telling me the creases and wobbly lines in the picture below are not really there? How come they are on one bolster but not the other?

I apologize to thecovergirl. I did not mean to have to nitpick, but your followers are lacking common sense. My offer stands on the sun shades if you ever find yourself with extra alcantara. And just to make it clear, you have skills that I don't. I would not be able to do what you are doing. You have lots of happy customers. Congrats.

I trust you'll excuse the lighting....

I suppose I could nitpick the above, but it'd be hard to do. I fully expect the ripples near the seams to go away after I stretch it over the seats. I doubt I'll get them all, much like the pic you posted, they didn't get all the wrinkles out of the bolster either...the upper backrest also has them. It's part of the deal. Consider doing a little more homework before reacting like a petulant 5 year old. I'm certain there's a seamstress in Beverly Hills that can hand sew some visors made of baby seal hides that just might meet your criteria.

Those look nice. Stitching is solid. Be sure to post pictures when you get them on the seats. Also, check out the mrmike website for tips on getting them to sit right.

I will ignore the name calling, as that is not my style. I have more important things to do, like building seat brackets for my seats, than getting in a name calling fest. But hey what do I know, I'm just the 5 year old.

I appreciate the apology and it's accepted. I understand you cannot please everybody. Learned that a long time ago. I also looked at Mr. Mikes site and from what I saw, there are many seats on there that have
wrinkles and creases. I didn't even have to click to enlarge the pictures to see them. I have many letters thanking me for such nice work and even phone calls after I am finished, so I must be doing something right and I truly enjoy what I do as well. Nuff said.

When i spoke to Hawks, they said that their seats are made by a 3rd party. I should hopefully have the samples in another week or two. Thanks for the heads up

I can honestly say that for my convertible I WILL be using Covergirls covers no matter what happens here. I have spoke with others that have installed her covers, and seen the pictures enough to know that these will suit my needs, and my wallet. Covergirls prices are more than fair for the quality I have seen.

I love the Mr. Mikes styles! Thanks for passing this info along.

Re: Checking Out Seat Covers

Thanks everybody for the great feedback here! I'm going to explore all of these options and find what works best for my car. It just hit me that I haven't put a pic up. The interior is rough (and i don't want to make anybody jealous with my electrical tape wrapped steering wheel) but the exterior is fresh!

Re: Checking Out Seat Covers

Interesting. One would think that you could go right through PUI, cut out the middle man, and save some $$$. I'm leaning away from an exact OEM replica. My vision is for a modern factory look.. like as if the interior was designed and produced in recent years.
