Cup Holders??

I recently saw a thread with a ton of people complaining about lack of cup holders. I too find myself wanting a cup holder every once in awhile. Is there a way to put one in??

Re: Cup Holders??

Go to search this forum, type in cup holders, and then read all the threads that come up. Search is a very useful thing!

Re: Cup Holders??

I'd imagine the easiest thing to do might be to get one from a 1991-92 Firebird since they all came with them from the factory. Only thing is, they're hard to find not broken, so they might be a little expensive.

Re: Cup Holders??

The best way to get cup holders in a 3rd gen is to put in a 4th gen console that has the cup holders in it.

The 3rd gen "cup holders" that mount to the doors are fairly useless because of their size & if you shut the door with a drink in the cup holder (assuming you can find something that fits in it)? It splashes everywhere.

Definitely not useless...they are large so you can't have an open container in them but capped or even lid and straw drinks are perfectly fine. I love the fact that a big gulp or the large 44ounce cups fit in there...wish my DD would fit larger drinks.

Re: Cup Holders??

The best place to put one is in the square piece behind where the window switches are. Underneath is hollow and where the optional analog clock used to be. I can attest to it because I took a 3" hole saw and put a clock in myself.

Search the 'interior' and 'fabrication' forums. You should find various options for cup holders there.

Re: Cup Holders??

I took a 3" hole saw to my console and put my $3 cup holder in that. Easy, out of the way, looks factory

Re: Cup Holders??

I actually ended up just buying one of the ones that slides in between the seat and the center console, holds 2 cups and a slot for a cell phone(or lighters, or ipod, or whatever else). It definitely doesn't look like it's factory but the thing is, I can just take it out if I really cared that much... I would NEVER cut anything in my car to put in a cupholder that looks "stock". because all us fellow thirdgen fans are gonna know... its not.

Re: Cup Holders??

I bought these:
Amazon Amazon
I cut off the top added some velcro and pop riveted them to the center console
near the heater vents. They work great and hold anything from a 12 oz can to an extra large drink at Jack=in-the-Box.

Re: Cup Holders??

4th gen console swap makes easy work of this(the glove box that comes with the dash is just a bonus)

Re: Cup Holders??

I'd rather install a cupholder of my own, the 4th gen consoles are hideous!

Re: Cup Holders??

I have a 4th gen TA as well as my 3 - 3rd gens.
The cup holder in the 4th gen is nice, but your drink always seems in the way.
from the armrest and the shifter.

The cup holders in the doors on the firebirds are ok,
until you shut the door and you forget that you have a drink in one.
Besides the drivers side always gets broken off from
getting kicked when you get out of the car!

Right, the 97-02 console may have 4 cupholders, but only one of them is usable. Anything taller than a takeout sauce cup falls out of the rears when turning, and the main front one puts drinks directly in the way of your arm when you're shifting. Ironically, the flimsy fold-out one in the side of the console for the front passenger is the only one that will hold a normal size drink that's not in the way when driving.

Nice solution. Wish they made it in grey but I'm gonna grab one of these, especially since I can remove it anytime. That for posting that link.

word man no problem.
I have had a problem once or twice where a large drink will fall out of the holder. BUT. I also have a problem with liking to drift my car through corners . Don't drive like me and you should be fine lol.
