Painting Interior Parts

Hi guys,

Starting work on restoring the interior of my 84 T/A and have been reading up a lot on the PROPER way to repaint/refinish the faded plastic parts of the interior. I am going to invest in a good cleaner to first get all the old wax and Armor All off, then hit it with an adhesion spray, then Vinyl / plastic paint.

I went to just about all of my auto parts stores today looking at their selection of interior paints. Very limited to say the least in color selection. I know Dupli-Color sells a line of OEM colors which may work, (the two colors I need for my interior are black, which is easy, and a charcoal grey).

What is the best way to match up the grey color with an interior paint? I may end up just having to use the paint company's closest color. Is there a way to cross reference the shade somehow...perhaps a code number on a label someplace in the car which will indicate the proper color?

Any recommendations on a quality paint brand would also be appreciated! Thanks!!

Re: Painting Interior Parts

As Mantaguy's referral, this is probably the most thorough thread on the topic. I made some posts on it as well based on my experiences doing it.

Also, I'm suggesting that instead of leaving your profile almost completely anonymous, you take a minute to provide others with some info. While it's not necessary to give a bio, your interests, or your exact location, at the very least, you should display your car's year, model and engine size & type.

To do so, click on your user name and in the 'about me' section, click on the pencil icon and please fill in the information that will result in you getting better and quicker responses to your questions.

Others on here have had excellent results with SEM plastic paint. Landau Black is what you would want for black, but I'm not sure about the gray.

FYI, the Duplicolor Dark Gray is the same color as our Medium Gray... Nowhere near close to Charcoal. Ended up recoating mine in Black.
