What are my options?

I am having a hard time finding one.

The 91 steering wheel isn't cutting it.

I like the gen 2 Firebird steering wheel.

Will it fit the 91?

If it does, that wound be great!!!

Re: Aftermarket steering wheel.
I have a grant wheel on my 91. It goes well with the look of my interior. But you can go with a second gen with minor modding. They look good in our cars.

I think a second gen wheel will look totally out of place.

Re: Aftermarket steering wheel.
im gonna be buying a grant sterring wheel from summit along with a horn button
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grt-440/overview/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grt-5640/overview/
and of coarse you need the adapter, thats where things get tricky if you havnt done your research.
you need to buy the 89 instal kit, you will need to make modifications, from what i hear its not much.(not 100% sure this is the exact one on my cart, carts on other computer...) just go through the application tab, this one does come out to 89 camaro
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grt-3196/overview/

as i said, you need to do some modification, luckily, i have found a guide on the forum of someone who did the swap, big issue with all this is, the airbag... summit hasnt figured out that we are most likely eliminating the airbag.....
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...eel-grant.html

hopefully all this helps, sorry if you knew most of this, alot of people dont, ive already gone through the bsing and found my products and what else to do, good luck with your search, and like i said hope it helps

I agree...I've seen them in 3rd gen's, and they don't match anything else in that interior.

I was in the same situation with my '91, and decided to go with a 1985-86 Firebird wheel. Very similar to the three spoke 2nd gen design, except it has the correct 3rd gen logo in the horn button, and it just looks right in the car. Not to mention that they're about a third of the price of a similar condition 2nd gen wheel.

Quote: Really?

Mine is a 2nd gen Trans Am replica made by Grant. And while my car is an early 3rd gen Trans Am, I think it can work on later model 3rd gen Firebirds.

Some custom fabrication will be necessary, http://bit.ly/TlykAz, and I am still making adjustments so it looks centered while driving the car.

Having said that, not sure I'd be willing to give up the added safety of a steering wheel with an airbag if my car had one.
I can admit when I am wrong... That looks nice in there.

That's what I'm talking about. This should fit my 91?

Is there any special precautions I should take when removing a steering whell with an air bag?

Re: Aftermarket steering wheel.
You should be able to find that wheel at most auto parts stores at a much better price like this.=

Re: Aftermarket steering wheel.
Everybody runs grant. I'm not knocking the product, but I like to do something different. I've got a nice billet forever sharp half wrap on my x mas list.

Re: Aftermarket steering wheel.
Just pick up an adaptor kit for a 1989 model year and use that. There were no kits out for the post 90s car because car makers don't want us tampering with airbag wheels.

Re: Aftermarket steering wheel.
i have this wheel in my car. i picked it up from the local autozone and the standard install kit was on the shelf below it. i just had to trim a tiny bit of the plastic off the steering column to get it to fit. the back of the box tells you what install kit you need for your car.

that is true. and it is technically illegal to remove your airbag wheel and replace it with a non airbag wheel. (that didnt stop me though)

Re: Aftermarket steering wheel.
Its been awhile. I think i just cut the wire and tucked it away. I can't remember tho. I also unpluged my airbag light from inside the clusters.
