How to lower seats? I'm too tall and my head rubs against the roof.
So apparently the 4th gen front seats sit a half inch lower than the stock seats in third gens. I'm looking for a way to get seats that sit even lower than that, i want them to be about 2 or 3 inches lower, but my goal would be about 4 to 5. So you guys got any solutions? I don't care what i have to do as long as the seats are comfy and it's not too hard to install. Sorry if someone already asked about this, just link me to the thread please, i spent a lot of time looking but didn't find anything. Thanks in advance, I appreciate it.

How tall are you? I'm 6'6" and have never had that problem in either of my cars. Its impossible to lower them by the amount you want without just simply removing the seats and sitting on the floor.

Haha dude you must be a giant! I'm 5'11" and I actually ended up raising my seat about an inch. I like to easily see over the hood.

I'm 6'5" on 4th gen seats & have no problems & know a guy 6'7" on 3rd gen seats that has no problems.
But it can also depend on how far back you lean your seat. If I sit STRAIGHT up? My head comes close. Straight up on 3rd gen seats & I hit the roof.

Wow! I'm 6' 6" and I have a 4th gen with t-tops, a 3rd gen with t-tops and a hardtop 3rd gen. I wear a baseball cap all of the time and still don't have any head to roof clearance issues. Dooood must drive sitting completely erect. I'm guessing you drive a Camaro? The Trans Am and GTA seats offer a tilt feature. Does the Camaro seats offer the same?

Re: How to lower seats? I'm too tall and my head rubs against the roof.
The 3rd gens were def designed for reclined seat backs. The seats won't even go full straight. Maybe because they recognized that they didn't have enough headroom.
The pass seat seams to be the limiting factor. I think they didn't put the drivers seat any lower because they couldn't get the pass low enough to match.
I run into the same problem, I,m 5,11 but I have really short legs so I'm the same height sitting down as people 6'3
I calculated you can lower the pass seat by only about 3/4 " before you hit the floor by chopping the mounts in the front so it doesn't give much room for adj unless you don't mind uneven seats. The drivers can be lowered by at least 1.25"

Move the seat up a bit and strighten up the seatback. Pop out the driver's side T top so you can see over the top. Wear goggles.

I don't want to appear to silly here, but if you have the money and want something DIFFERENT, you could always have a talented sheet metal guy shape some roof blisters into the roof like on the Dodge Viper! That might actually look very cool...! Everyone has different proportions, so I understand your dilemma- I am a little longer in the torso than the legs, so my head does brush the headliner a little, depending on the angle of the seat.

I have taken a few seats apart ...and in some GM cars ..there are small spacers between the steat and brackets that bolt to the floor ....its on my list of things todo with my Iroc ..I am over 6foot2 ...the P.O put 4Th gen seats in ...but I still want lower ...I'm even thinking about get Fiero seat brakets to see if they sit any lower .....

I found out several years ago when I replaced the OEM foam headliner with a molded plastic liner that I gained over an inch of head clearance. The molded liner is contoured closer to the roof metal while the foam OEM one is manufactured flatter with a larger air-gap to the roof.

It's been so long I don't remember. Probably Classic though as only recently have I started getting bits from Year One. I do remember that when I bought mine only the bare uncovered ABS pieces were available. You might want to do some research on the replacement molded headliner though. When I bought mine it came without the front metal mounting clips that are crimped into the OEM composite one. I had to come up with a non-ideal method of transferring them because I did not like the way the front edge sagged a little on the replacement liner without them. I'm getting off-topic! The unexpected head clearance was a benefit of the less than easy install.

I wish the whole seat would slide back farther , being tall you have to have your foot tilted to drive , kinda sucks

The stock Recaro seats sit a lot lower than the rest. I'm 6'7" and have no issues with the Recaros.

What do you mean stock Recaro seats? Aren't those aftermarket seats?

For hard top cars, the abs replacements are stupid. There are plenty of repairable headliners out there, easy to fix and will look way better than the abs.
T-top ones are harder to find.

Get a hair cut!
I'm 6'2 also...
Headroom wasn't my problem, leg room was... I put manual recline 4th gen seat track on my 3rd gen seat / firebird and it's amazing what just reclining the seat back a few inches does for comfort (and moving back / head back... I also got some brackets to move the seat back even more (my car is a stick shift, Knight Rider steering wheel, pods with Turbo boost buttons, etc...)...

Re: How to lower seats? I'm too tall and my head rubs against the roof.
Hey everyone, thanks for the help, i bought fiero seat rails and and 4th gen seats off a 94 firebird. Everything was a direct bolt in and I can sit up straight now.
Re: How to lower seats? I'm too tall and my head rubs against the roof.
This thread has a lot of useful information! I too am hitting my head 6ft 4in. Being that the 4th gen brackets sit lower, has anyone bolted a manual one to a 3rd gen seat? Through some experimentation I figured I need 36 1/2in. between the seat bottom to the headliner. I measured from where the seat bottom and back meet. The seat is pretty much on the floor I know but its comfortable for me. Does anyone have this setup? Is my headroom goal possible by simply switching tracks?

I have 4th gen manual seats & people say my seats look like I'm laying down (back rest laid back but no visibility problems). No headroom problems though.

My 82 PMD seats bolted to 4th gen tracks and into the car,no problem. If you can get the manual reclining track, it makes a big difference.

Re: How to lower seats? I'm too tall and my head rubs against the roof.
Bringing and old thread back to life .....
I'm 6'5". Hate it that I always sat up so high in the car.
If you dropped a plumb bob from the top of the windshield, sitting properly in the car would have your eyes right at the halfway point. Even with the seat reclined more than I was comfortable with, I was above that point. I always felt awkward in the car. I wanted to sit low in it, not high.
The simplest solution is to simply bolt on a set of Fiero seat brackets. They will drop you right at 1". Doesn't sound like much, but it makes a HUGE difference.
The brackets bolt right in on the driver's side, but they do **** the seat at an angle. That's the way they mount in Fieros, they're so small the front wheelwells intrude on the footwells, so the seats are cocked to compensate. You can correct this with a little dremel work.
Before you do anything else, try this.
