Recovered my seats...
Hey guys I have been hammering away at projects on my convertible and finally was able to get the seat covers done. I used a full ultra leather kit from Covergirl (member here www.lethalinteriors.com).
I'd like to show you what I was working with before I start with finished pics.
Before:

As you can see from the above pics the interior the interior was in really tough shape. The covers were torn, the foams had seen more sun than probably fair for any car. The rear seats had been wet from no back window and being parked under a tree for years, so the old covers tore off like a wet paper towel (not Bounty).
The new covers are a drastic improvement and overall for the price I am satisfied.

The review... Being this is the third set of Camaro split back deluxe seats I personally have done, I feel that I am fairly familiar with installation. The covers fit loose. My foams were in pretty poor shape, but not severe. I used the steam method of swelling the foams back up to shape which really helped a bunch, but even with the foams steamed back to shape the covers still just slid on too easily. I had to fight the last set of covers I put on, and these I did not. The edges are getting the wiggles that would make you think welting is crooked in the inside, and I assure you they are not. I am unsure if brand new foams would be that much bigger to compensate and make them that tight. I had to cut across the stitching in the center of the seats to open the headrest hole. This on my previous covers had been pre-cut and sewn at the edges, so a little worried that the center stitching will stay in. The headrest were equipped with a zipper instead of a snapping channel like OE and the zipper pull will not tuck due to design and kinda hangs. I leave my head rests down, so not a noticeable issue. The front seat backs use factory velcro to hold the center stitch line in for definition, and the replacements must be hog ringed in. When hog ringing in I feel it pulls the center in too much and shows a little ripple at each placement of the hog ring...
All of these things are little grips, and all in all I am smiling. I think that these could have probably turned out better if I had bought brand new seat foams all around, but for most people buying I think that original seat foams will be re-used. I know in my last two I did they were original and I didn't even steam the foam to pump them up. Covergirl was awesome with her communication and getting me information and options. Her color match to my samples was super close. Her shipping was fast, and even followed up to make sure everything showed up ok.
Again I am happy. The cover set was inexpensive ($585 shipped) and looks 10x better than before
Thanks Covergirl

Heck yea, looks a whole lot better than before! Nice looking interior
Re: Recovered my seats...
An improvement, no doubt.
LMAO!
FWIW, my seats had a few wrinkles when I picked them up from the upholstery shop, but the guy who did the work told me that—after a few hours in the sun—those wrinkles would disappear. He even used a heat gun to show me what heat did to the material.
I chose vinyl for mine, so leather may react differently. And the foam was in fairly decent shape. But, as Howard said, after a few hours in the hot Florida sun (as well as some use), the material smoothed out considerably, and most wrinkles are now gone.
Anyway, for only $585 your interior looks great. I think I spent something like 4 times that amount.

I think ultra leather is vinyl. I notice when the upholstery guys do seat covers they are always steaming them. With that said - I have seen several threads on here about seats from the Covergirl. With the exception of a set of real leather seats she made for a red GTA in tan, they always seem to look a bit loose. The set in the GTA were sent to her to install the covers and sent back to the customer. I wonder if that is the difference.

Glad to see she came through for you... Didn't she have some problems a few years back with people not getting their orders?

I have dealt with Covergirl. She shipped my order right away and her product was good. I think that her prior issues here are old news and she has proven herself to be a good business to deal with.

As I've said before, I think the seats look great. I was wondering if you ever got a new top put on. I'm planning to replace mine this spring.

Re: Recovered my seats...
Oh yeah I got that done and on back in Sept. I didn't even really like driving it knowing that it could rain at any time and it would all go inside, so top was done before the seats. I didn't really post any pics of the top install since I drug it out for a few weekend and finished the headliner and stuff later.

That's good.... but too bad for me, I would have liked to follow the thread. I haven't been able to find a comprehensive "How-To" yet, but I'll keep looking. Thanks!

Re: Recovered my seats...
No it doesn't matter what type of cloth or leather they are. Alot of times if the foam does not steam out 100%, you have to add more foam to the seat cushion for them to fit snug. You have to remember, the foam has been out in the elements for years and with the heat and cold it also shrinks and swells which keeps the foam from steaming out 100% back to factory new again. All that is needed is some 1/2 foam added to the cushion and it will fit snug. Now that is not needed on every car. It just depends on the condition of the foam to start with. All the covers are made exactly from the factory pattern and they are not made any bigger.
