Re: top dash crack

I bought one off ebay. Craigs has em too - have to be viligant in searching, paid like $300 ish with shipping.

There are fix kits out there, but unless your really good at it, they tend to look like just that - a repaired dash.

Yeah, sucks doesn't it? But hey, at least you didn't buy a new 4th gen and have both door panels (which were otherwise flawless) crack due to a design flaw (like me). Oh and the dash cracked in it too before the factory warranty ran out (fortunately had that replaced under warranty). BTW car was garaged and had less than 20K.

IIRC, 82-84 Firebirds have their own dashpad. No Camaro dashpad is interchangeable, but I think 85-92 Firebird might work, it just wouldn't be "correct".

I emailed OER about that pad a few months ago. It is not available at this time and it unknown when it will be available again. Apparently there were quality control issues and it was pulled to make improvements. Just an FYI - the OER pads are urethane, not vinyl like the originals. It is a self skinning single stage process and the core also forms the outer skin. The originals were a urethane core with a vinyl bonded skin.

If you download the OER catalog, it mentions the material it is made from. They offer 2 versions for some cars, and the vinyl versions are more expensive. So I sent them an email and inquired about it.

Ok, You would have to call C/I and get their specs.. Is it highly noticable after installation?

You can download the OER catalog here.

I am not a big fan of their parts, but they are the only one that makes (or will hopefully) a dash pad replacement for thirdgens. There is a thread here started by someone who purchased a Camaro version and it seemed to have some promise as a decent replacement.

Check out the pics of a Camaro replacement in that link above. It appears to be a decent replacement and the texture and grain look good. The corners were shaped a little different though.

Re: top dash crack

Ok, I see that. Luckily, I purchased my car new in 1988 and it has been garaged most of it's life. My dash pad never cracked! Thank god. I got into a huge arguement with C/I last week because I ordered some suspension parts from them when I was in Afghanistan last July. I was injuried and made it back to the states in late Oct. I am in a Wounded Warrior Program now and when I told them I wasn't here when the parts were shipped to my house, they said, "Sorry, store credit only". I explained that what they sold me wasn't to exact specification and the lady was very rude. I have now purchased everything from BMR. I did get my T-Top cloth roof and Sun visors from them 2 years ago and they still look great. But, I don't know if I want to deal with them any more

Re: top dash crack

I have never dealt with Classic but they do check this site. One of the customer service reps joined here and personally took care of a problem somebody had with their customer service. I believe his screen name is Classic1.

IBMtech - I just checked Classic1 - last visit was today at 6 PM. It might be worth it to PM him with your issues.
BTW - I hope you make a speedy recovery.
