Carpet installation-cuts
I did some searching but no one addresses the cuts needed to install new carpet. Here's my deal: the hole for the console was way too small. I think they did not take into account for the parking brake. Am I correct?
Next, the front of the carpet (firewall, tranny hump) is supposed to tuck under the air vents and without cutting will never fit. Am I correct?
Next, after making these extra cuts I am closer to having it in the right position, but it just not quite fitting right. Am I missing something else?
I think I will put some weights on top of the shaft tunnel to get it to lay down then work my way out. I assume they added extra material on the sides so you can make adjustments. I thought this was going to be a relatively easy process from reading the threads on here.
BTW: I didn't have the old carpet to let the new stuff "sit" in so I know I was already going to have a little more trouble than someone with the old carpet still.
Any suggestions or does anyone have any pics they took while installing theirs out?

The 1st question is yes,you begin with a small cutout,2nd question is yes.Keep trimming the carpet from where the back of the console is going to be and keep moving it forward until you get it to tuck up under the dash.Stock Interiors.com has a video you can checkout.

Not sure about the Camaro - but in the Firebirds you can take out the lower duct to make it easier to fit the carpet. It is 1 or 2 bolts and it comes out.

Re: Carpet installation-cuts

I used bags of lead bird shot to weight down the carpet and "hold" it in place while I was fitting and cutting it. Helped a lot!

Just cut a little at a time so you don't wind up taking too much off. Trial fit your console a few times through the process so you can make sure it will cover your cuts.
It is too bad you don't have the old carpet because it sure would have made your life a lot easier to visualize how everything should look when it is installed.

Re: Carpet installation-cuts
Well, here we are. Two months later.... After many overtime hours at work I have been able to FINALLY finish the carpet install! Here is a pic just before putting the passenger seat in.

It's all coming along nicely! I ended up cutting about 2 inches off the front and along the trans hump to get the right fit. Then I forget how much I cut off the center to fit around the shifter and parking brake but it was a lot. There is still one spot in the rear passenger floor board that has a mean wrinkle but hopefully once I put those seats in it will go away.
Overall, the fit is nice. It definitely required more work than I thought, but was well worth it.

If your carpet is like mine, you'll need to trim where the door sill plates go on too. I ended up with about an inch or so more carpet towards the pass. side sill for some reason although I thought I had it perfectly centered....

Yep, it was a P.I.T.A.!! Worth it in the end though. I haven't put the sill plates on yet, still deciding on what to do with the red panels. Any suggestions?

Re: Carpet installation-cuts
Thanks! I've been getting a lot of compliments on the red/black. I even started a thread trying to help me decide, lol!

All of my interior panels are red. My original plan was to go all black. But I am second guessing this now. The red/black is growing on me but not all of my panels are in good shape, as described in my post.
