Replacing Carpet - What else should I do while its out?

I will be replacing my tan carpet with a black one with masbacking from RockAuto. I'm just wondering what else I should take care of while the seats are out and the carpet is removed?

If I do encounter rusty floorboards (heater core leaked for a while), how should I repair it? If it's minor can I sand it and then paint with Rustoleum?

I'm open to any suggestions

For any rust that's not through, I recommend wire brushing it then POR-15 over it.

Clean up all rust and repaint with what ever you chose. Id seriously replace those torx bolts with a grade 8 or 10 hex bolt as they never survive comin out more than once. Next time you might not be so lucky to get them out. look at all the wiring and make sure its still good. If you gonna run a stereo its a good tin to run the wiring. Fix the heater core as it easier to clean up while theres no carpet

If it doesn't have any rust my personal preference would be to paint it with bedliner or something similar, moisture and grime have a way of making it thru the carpet wearing the paint away and rusting. Also if yours is anything like mine clean up and paint the seat frame bases.

My seat frames look terrible, thats a great idea, thanks. Did you sand the seat base and paint?

As for the floor pan, I will get the starter kit of Por-15 from Amazon, I THINK it should take care of the area.

Which bolts are you talking about?

I used a wire wheel, sanding would work as well, then primed and painted.

Pretty sure 6SIX6 is refering to the seatbelt anchor bolts which are Torx head if they're factory, I had no issues with mine, but many do.

I'm in the middle of an interior replacement myself...sounds like decent advice above. I never had an issue with my torx bolts for the seat belts, an this is the third time I've had them out.

I would say though, if the torx bolt head (where the torx bit engages into) is getting remotely stripped, just replace it. They're a bear to put in as it is...they're supposed to fit tight so they don't come loose. Good time to do any under dash wiring too.

If you find rusty floorboards, you need to find out where the water is getting in.

Not likely its getting in though the floor.

I've read lots on here about soundproofing mats such as Dynamat. It would be something to consider to make it a quieter ride.
