Black Carpet in Beachwood Tan Interior - DONE
AAC carpet from RockAuto, with Mas backing. Pictures may not do it justice but it looks awesome, IMO. That's sunlight in the bottom left picture.
There was a good amount of rust on front the passenger floor pan, I sanded what I could and covered it with POR-15. There were only a few small rust holes which I painted underneath as well. I used the POR-15 on every part that had rust, and then used some Rustoleam for good measure.

Looks great. I have a gray interior in my 88 GTA (same as yours, except white). I am switching it all over to black. If I had Beachwood interior...I would do same as you. My gray carpet is showing stains like crazy from PO.

Love it. Definitely going to have to do the same to mine when I get finished with the body work.

Just curious if you went with a cut pile or nylon loop style carpet. I was looking at options. Most European exotics use a loop style carpet and I considered that going that style might enrich the look of the interior? Opinions?

Original carpet was so disgusting, stained badly, cigarette burns, rusted and very smelly.

This is what you can expect to find underneath. The padding was glued to the floor, I had to leave it. I know the passenger side had rust underneath the old padding, I just sprayed Rustoleum over it and left it there.

I am so glad you did this before I attempted it. The black compliments the rest of the interior and I was considering this since I bought ours with Beechwood.
I am glad you did this because I was leaning this way and now I need to stick to the Beechwood for me.... Don't take this wrong, I think it looks great in your car (mainly because your exterior is black too) but I want to keep mine in the original color and stick with it.

Interesting. After seeing it, it looks better than I first thought. Blends well with the plastics!

IMissMy86TA I love the black rims. Did you paint the gold? I've been tempted to do that.

I'm glad this has been useful to everyone. Good or bad for your car, that's why I posted it - to help in the decision making.

I can kind of relate because I recently went from sandstone gray to all black...sandstone gray is a very light - almost off-white color. Looks awesome when its new and clean, but when it ages, it just looks worn down and dirty...no amount of scrubbing and cleaning would change it.
-And as far as carpet goes, get it with the mass backing. I got it without the first time and it was wrinkle city...just IMO...
