Under door lights.
Under door lights.
I was looking at doing some under door lights so that when the doors open, the light comes on. I am not talking about what I have seen before where people basically stick an led strip on the bottom of the door and called it good. I mean a light integrated into the bottom of the door. I would prefer if it was in a 4th gen door because that is what I am gonna put in but if it was in a third gen panel that would be fine. Again, I am looking for a fully integrated light that looks like its a factory option.

Called "puddle lights".
I don't know of any kits specific to f bodies, but many newer cars have them. Just a matter of cutting a hole and wiring to the footwell lights, shouldn't be too hard. Put it near the rear of the door or the light will be blocked until the door is open pretty far, we have long, wide doors.

Re: Under door lights.
You got me thinking about this and I realized the door gfx would be a great place to put those on our cars as long as they are properly waterproofed .
Re: Under door lights.
That's kinda what I was thinking. I have had people walk into my door three times now because they can't see how far it sticks out at night. While this is mostly because they are stupid, I thought it would be a nice modern touch to put them in somewhere. I was thinking of buying a led light unit and seeing if I couldn't retrofit it into the car, that would be a relatively easy way to have a sealed unit. I have little experience with electrical work but I think the easiest way to make it turn off and on depending on the position of the door would be a sensor like the one used to turn the cabin done light on and off. I.e. door opens and the dome light + door light turn on. Door closes, they turn off

It would be very easy to splice into the existing harness. There's a light in the footwell, right next to the door sensor. Splice into that then just run through the door wire harness. The footwell light is already controlled by the door switch.
You realize I'm probably going to steal your idea now, right?

Re: Under door lights.
ive thought of doing this myself, be interesting to see how this goes. shouldnt be too hard
ive always thought of going to a salvage yard and pull the lens and housing out of a car that already has it and integrate it in

Well it will be a long while before I would do this project but it should definitely be interesting. I hear alot of people say, "I have considered doing this" but I haven't heard of anyone who has done it. Stealtht/a, please do! You'll probably be doing if first so you can tell me all the difficulties

Re: Under door lights.
My wife's 90 Volvo 740 has a red light on the end of the door that lights up when the door is opened. I added them to my Camaro too. It was a PITA to do though. Not only did I have to cut the rectangular hole in the door, but fabricate a special bracket to go inside to hold the lamp in place. I did the passenger side door first, then discovered there is a very important sticker that was in that location on the drivers side. Oh well, too late now. I figured symmetry was more important than that sticker. Besides if anyone criticizes the modification, I just have to look at the pink slip to see who ultimately makes the call on what is done to the car.
