Carpet Ideas and Opinions Please
Decided to pull the carpet. It looked okay.. but, as I looked closer, there were rows missing and fraying on the driver's side under the pedals.

Great news.. only a touch of surface rust.. otherwise.. rust free. So, three questions:
1. I'm going to brush off the surface rust.. what do you suggest I spray on there to stop it before it starts?
2. You can see there are still four pads of the under-padding on the floor. It's obviously glued down big time to stop the carpet from moving around. Do I just leave that? Or try to take it off?
3. What's the most correct, best-fitting, easiest to install, most reasonably priced replacement?
thanks!

1. Several companies make a "rust stop" product that you simply spray on like spray paint. Some of the stuff even turns it black and primes it so you can paint over it.
2. When I replaced my carpet I just left the stuck in underpadding there. I tried scraping it off but it was damn near impossible.
3. I got my carpet from Hawks but the box came from ACC. I don't think there is much of a price difference if you go directly through ACC but I am not 100% sure. All carpet kits will require some trimming but I was able to get mine in with 0 previous experience and it looks great. I had to trim about 3-4 inches off the front and about an inch from each side to make it tuck under the door trim panels. Also, make sure you get the option for the center console cutout. The cutout on every carpet kit I have seen is WAY smaller than required but just cut a little bit at a time until it fits correctly. You can always remove material but you can't add it back.
