rear hatch pull down motor

Ok so I went out to the car the other day and unlocked the trunk with the key. When I raised the hatch the pull down motor started running. It kept running and won't cut off and I can't close the trunk now. I don't drive the car much so I just disconnected the battery for now and left it alone until I have more time to fool with it. Any ideas of what's going on with it or what to do? I've never had a problem with it before now.

Re: rear hatch pull down motor

Sounds like something broke (duh...) My guess probably the guides. Call Lon at Top Down Solutions - he is pretty much the expert at pull down motor assemblies and as far as I know the only guy who sells repair guide for them.

I agree. the Gearnut is bad. I sell it. It is still available at the dealer too. Bad guides may have contributed to the gearnut failing, but the problem you describe is the classic symptom of a bad gearnut.

Re: rear hatch pull down motor

There is a manual latch, but it has a different bracket attaching to the rear bulkhead, so you will need to cut off the power bracket and weld on the manual before you install the manual latch. The best thing to do is cut the whole section of bulkhead out of a junkyard car so you can see where it mounts, there are no obvious reference points.
