Re: t top headliner solutions

Factory Fisher Body T-top headliner was made from "fiberboard".
Kind of like cardboard but a bit more durable.

after market are generally made from ABS plastic.
1AAuto, a sponsor for this site sells them covered in many colors or bare.
Classic Industries is another example of a seller.
Look around if you're interested in a ABS piece for prices.
If you want original
You might get lucky looking in the
Interior Parts For Sale boards
Or Craigslist

I saw someone use fiberglass to reinforce the fragile board.

Ok
If yours is in good condition then yes you can remove the old material & re-cover.
Take it easy removing the material. The fiberboard can be extremely easy to break!!
You want to get off all the foam too. Ours was so dried out I just used my hands & rubbed it off.

Also, when removing // installing the fiberboard, use care so as not to tear // break off the plastic mount little metal pieces made into the fiber. Its repairable but a PITA to get it back to position!
If you use too much pressure popping them in the body, it will cause a dip in the board. Hard to get it in!!
It would be a good idea to have a couple people help removing : installing.

I would buy some from an auto body supply shop. 3M will most likely be a choice. The important thing is for it to specifically be recommended for headliners and, of course, be sure to follow the manufacturers directions.

I did this too.
Do it before you re-cover.
Still flexable enough to install.
I used glass matt around visors, dome light, & seatbelt openings.
I only did the inside. Some have done both sides.

Re: t top headliner solutions

I recovered my original headliner board a while back. The board was still in great shape after I got the fabric off. I worked at a stereo shop at that time and I took fiberglass resin(no glass)and coated the board with it and let it soak in. Did that a few times and let it cure. Stiffened the board right up but was still able to be worked to get back in the car. Worked out well.

Re: t top headliner solutions

I fixed mine also. I used resin, but I added some fiberglass cloth to the places that felt a little soft. Don't go crazy with the resin and cloth as you don't want it to get too heavy. I took the repaired board to a local interior shop and had that and my visors recovered.
