So I am taking apart some of the center console and found this wiring for a light. It only works when I turn on the marker lights. Stays on when I release the parking break and does not reach the stereo. Any thoughts???

 

91 z28 305 700r4...only light in that area on mine illuminates the auto shift numerals when dark/lights on.

 

Thats the weird thing because mine is a manual lol.

 

Noticed that....wonder two things if different wiring harnesses were used auto vs manual and in the last year if they subbed the auto harness into the manuals ...don't know why a light there otherwise.

 

I have no clue. My old camaro (92RS) was also a manual and did not have that light in there at all. Im kinda thinking that there is possibly something in the center glove box that it goes to but i couldnt find anything

 

I checked the 91 factory service manual..the schematic for interior lights appears to be the same for all models excepting there is one wire and light indicated for auto only and that is the "shift indicator light"...didn't note any other lights that would fit yours and appears manual and auto wiring is otherwise the same...

 

That is weird lol. I think that im going to try and use it for something else.

Yeah, I cant find any thing that looks like its had a transmission swap at all.

 

that sure is an odd place for that light ... none of those power switches were ever lighted were they?

 

Not that I can see. I pulled out all the switches and there is nothing there for a light at all.

 

did any of them get a light where the ashtray in the back of the console is?

 

Holy crap! I havent thought of that one at all. Im going to go see really quick if there is anything there lol.

 

Not sure on Camaros, but on firebirds there's a plunger switch activated by the center console lid that turns on a light in the console storage. The firebirds also have a lighted shift pattern indicator on the shifter plate for manuals. Totally pointless, but you can make other patterns out of it.

 

Yeah, I tore up the whole center console and found nothing lol. So I'm going to use the wiring to make something a little custom. I just need to order a couple parts I'll post picks.
