Painting interior panels

I've got a problem, I want to paint my interior panels Lt Sand Gray, but the problem is that Lt Sand Gray was only in 83-84 cars so finding good panels in the yard is next to impossable, so I figured I'd just dye mine instead, HOWEVER........ there seams to be a serious lack of 80's dye's available, at least the Lt Sand Gray color anyhow.... I CAN however get it mixed as paint, but from that I've seen, just paint the panels they'll peel n flake off, and since I REALLY have no intention of removing my interior to repaint it all.... What can I use to permanently bond the paint to the plastic or where in the world can I get Lt Sand Gray Interior Dye's??? Classic Industries nor YearOne have it listed, I tried searches for that dye on the internet as well as sources of dye's hoping that I'd get lucky. All failed, so please someone help me...

Thanks,
Joe

I have used vht and duplacolor in the past they work great. The key is prep with scotchbrite and wipe down with rubbing alcohol

Re: Painting interior panels

Professional paint guy who is a vendor at my dealer told me to clean really well and use an adhesion promoter before painting and there will be no problem peeling. I had him do a few pieces for me over a year ago and they are still perfect.

Re: Painting interior panels

i used to use SEM at the shop, key is prep work, TSP, Dishsap and some denatured alcohol all do wonders, hit it with some adhesion promotor and then use your dye. ive also had luck with regular spray paint but after awhile even if it doesnt peel it gets cruddy from the oils in your body.

How do you plan on doing a quality job while leaving all the pieces still bolted on inside the car? Maybe you misspoke but that line is just confusing because in order to properly clean and prepare the panels have to come out.

SEM, duplicolor, or what I personally used was Krylon. All are made with an adhesion promotor built in (though you can use some for extra measure). As long as you allow for the proper drying time they hold up well and haven't chipped so far.
