LED swap for all lighting.

So I was wondering if there might be some value for those looking to replace all lighting in the car with LED's for there to be a central thread that lists these. I know there are threads that have information but there isn't one total thread with every kind of bulb and its corresponding LED replacement.

I found the below info from Sylvania. While some of them you can guess exactly how many bulbs you will need, others it doesn't really indicate how many you need to replace.

Can people who have done the swaps to LED's chime in and take what below....add the number of bulbs of each and what they used to replace it?

Re: LED swap for all lighting.

I have replaced around 1/2 of mine with LED bulbs. 194 LED replacement bulbs are much brighter. The dual filament bulbs in an LED style are usually not as bright unless both filaments are being used. Like with the turn signals , when in parking light only they are just ok, turn on the turn signal and they are much brighter because all of the LED s are used then instead of only a few, understand? Dome light has many different choices and can be the same brightness or much brighter. The plus is that it is not that dingy yellow light. :-)

Re: LED swap for all lighting.

I use this . Fill in the information if you want.
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/l...ro--/11-322--/

What information you might really want to get down, the dimensions inside the housing for the bulbs. As say, if I wanted to replace my sidemarkers, I need a bulb that isn't to long, as it will hit the lens. So if people want to start measuring stock bulb lengths (base and bulb) as well as width of room available in or around the bulb housing, that'd help a lot. Another example is the dome light, I've used the LED board style replacements as they fit square in the housing, and look nice with an even spread throughout the cover. Have fun. I'll start adding infomration when I get my car back, this is a simple mod that I'll be tackling immediately. All the easy ones anyway.

Edit: I'm not sure how accurate it is, but SuperBrightLED's has an 'Oversized' label on all their bulbs.

I'm looking at somewhere close to $300+ to do all lights on the car to LED's, through SuperBrightLED's.

Re: LED swap for all lighting.

Got LEDs everywhere on the car.All int, except hi beam/seatbelt/choke (plus Rr sigs/BU), as those are seldom used.Brake/tail, side markers, fr.sigs are LED boards w/ 20-40 LEDs per. You'll need a LED flasher too, as most P&P units wont blink.I used a relay instead.

There are dozens of choices when it comes to 194 replacement.I like the SMT types, very bright. You cant fit anything much longer than 1" or wider than 1/2" on the side markers.

Re: LED swap for all lighting.

I was going to convert the instrument, hvac and shifter to led but you cannot use the dimmer on leds. I stayed with bulbs. I did change the markers, license and trunk to led. These look good especially the license plate lights look bright white rather then that dim orange. I am waiting for the third brake light G4 mount 1.5w leds to arrive from hong kong. I tried white leds already but that made the brake look orange eventhough the lens is a good dark red. so im going to try red leds soon.

Where does this relay go, and how many are needed for which LED's. I was looking at SBLED's and they no longer sell their own Flasher Relays or Load Resistors. Also, can we post a list of which LED's need the relay and which do not.

Or can we just get dimmable LED's and be done with it? I put LED's all in my 86 Z31 without any problems blinking or dimming (I got lucky?), so of course I'd need an extra part in the 3-year newer camaro. Lol.

Thanks.

Relay can go wherever its convenient.Mine are on the fenders by the side markers & inside the housing on the driving lamps. One per, 4 in my case.

You need relays to make any LED work as a signal light. They need to be wired correctly.Usually easier to use a LED flasher though.

Re: LED swap for all lighting.

I got my third brake light LEDS today. I used 12V G4 1.5W SMD LED in RED. search ebay. They work either polarity direction when plugged in. The only thing you will need is a reamer for making the holes slighly bigger so the led will insert into the hole.

Re: LED swap for all lighting.

try contacting Basshead208, I believe he's converted his whole car to LED or at least most of the car int and ext, might be more custom than you're lookin for but definitely worth a look

When I saw this thread, that was my first thought!

Low-beam: H4656 - Is this for camaros or trans ams [flip up lights, i mean] ? Is there a difference?
