Headliner kit opinions...again

I have searched and all the threads are old.

I am looking at getting a hardtop headliner kit (headliner, sail panels, sunvisors). Which is the best "bang for the buck"? I am leaning towards CI, because they are the best price that I could find. Recovering is out of the question. What are your experiences? Any pics of finished installs?

thanx

I got a kit from CI a few years ago. I got the sails, sunvisors, and a roll of the Dove Gray Material and done the headliner myself. But...my headliner board was in great shape. You may need to buy the new board with the covering already on it and then just buy the other pieces in the kit.
Mine turned out really nice...no complaints. I have no pictures of it, but it looks factory fit and finish.

What's the deal with the ABS ones? I hear bad things about them, mostly with the color not matching.. I am re-doing my whole interior black, new carpet, plastics, seats, center console, etc, last thing I need is headliner.

The ABS ones from what I heard and seen is the fit. It looks and seems to be a tad short all the way around and fitment is a little off. But the board type see to be fine. IDK

Re: Headliner kit opinions...again

On the hard top abs headliners the overall fit isn't as bad and since its a simpler shape it can be adjusted and trimmed to get a decent fit. The big problem is that they used the back side of the headliner to make the mold. If you look at the originals, cabin side is smooth, back side has a big reinforcing ridge. So on the abs model, the cabin side shows a big ridge down the middle like a ttop bar. Also fits lower than original so less headroom. The ridge also means that neither the hard top nor ttop overhead consoles fit properly.

Well, I have a t-top car, so I don't think the t-top bar will bother me, also I don't have an overhead console nor plan on using one so again, I think it will work for me, hopefully.

Thank you for clearing it up, I am going to take a chance on it when I am ready to put my interior in.

Re: Headliner kit opinions...again

The ttop models don't seem to fit too great either, lots of people have posted pics that aren't great. They definitely need to be fabric covered, look like *** in bare abs and the fabric fill the otherwise large gaps between the pillar trim. The ttop models can also be a problem as they have no rigidity in the middle at all. Even if you add tape of fasteners, they still sag and deform in hot weather. If you do use one I would add some bracing down the center like a wooden tack strip or something.
