87 IROC Door/Panel Weather stripping Refurbishing
Hi guys...
I just refurbished the drivers side door panel and installed new door weatherstripping. The outter door and inner door handles also required replacing as they were broken. This is something I wanted to do for a long time and never got to getting around to it until now. For X-Mas I bought myself
some new weather stripping for the door. I already had the unbroken black plastic channel piece from years ago. These had good condition window felts so that was an added bonus to install them. The fabric on the corner was sagging as well and I had bought a can of the Carmine Red carpet paint for a quick touch up on them as well. Some of the tabs were broken but not to worry...creative uses of Gorilla HD tape and some Rhino double stick also paid off. It's not a PERFECT job but it looks 98% better and the door no longer "rattles" as much when going over large pot holes...

more pics of project
P/S I didn't have to cut too much off the head of the new door weather stripping for the door to close. It is still a lot tighter than before but I suspect it will loosen up in a few days of use...

More pics...
The NEXT effort will be to replace the weather stripping on the passenger door and refurbish the sagging cloth on that panel as well....
Recommendation for those going to tackle this --- take your time

Re: 87 IROC Door/Panel Weather stripping Refurbishing
Starting the passenger door panel I noticed that while removing the door panel that the inner door handle was a bit "loose" at the rivet. Thus I will be replacing the inner door handle as well as the outer door handle. I think this "loose" handle was making some of the racket when the door would shimmy. I will also reuse the broken plastic channel piece due to the great condition the felt strips are on the stoker. I have a replacement channel piece that isn't cracked BUT the felts on that one suck and I don't want to peel them off and having them looks worse. I'll just make a glue repair with the crack on the stock channel piece.

PASSENGER DOOR Weather Stripping, Inner and outer door handle replacements and door panel touchups/fabric repair.
As stated earlier...I wasn't going to replace the inner door handle but noticed that the rivet holding the door handle was loose and "rattling". I also choose to reuise my "cracked" upper door plastic channel piece since the FELT was in almost PERFECT condition. My one piecer replacement felts SUCKED and I didn't want to chance peeling them off only to have them not function properly. I filled the crack with some filler-- ILL LIVE WITH IT.
- Portions of the clothe and carpet were retouched with OEM Crimson carpet spray paint purchased from CLASSIC INDUSTRIES..

Looking good - where did you get the door gaskets and how did they fit?
To clean up the rubber/plastic arm rest/handle use simple green & a nylon brush - it will come out looking brand new.

I got them at Camaro central for 89 $. They fit pretty well. I had to trim a few mm here and there with a razor blade but for the most part everything lined up exactly. I will have to adjust my door striker a bit on the passenger side.
SIMPLE GREEN.. yeah it's the bomb for sure. That was already in my arsenal. The nylon brush wasn't. I just used some clean shop rags to get the gunk off. Goo Be Gone was also an assist with some weird stains. Luckily I had all the cleaners and paint.

Decided to "touch up" the IROC interior after concluding the Door Panels.
1.) OEM Carmine Red paint touch up carpet, rear hatch, sail panels, and floor boards.
2.) Midnight Black fabric dye to touch up custom 2-tone drivers/passenger seats. In pics.. camera flash drowns out the blackness of the dyed seats.. they really do look great in person..
3.) T-TOP Bag repair... mounting straps sewed back on and bag detailed/mounted.
"CARMINE THE PIMP" RED interior is ready to IROC n ROLL!!!!

DynoD
That is Rhino double sided adhesive tape to hold down the bulk of the "sagging" cloth on the door panel. I used Gorilla tape and/or a combo of the Rhino and the Gorilla T to anchor the door panel cloth on the outer most corners and along the top channel before mounting the black plastic channel pieces. Like I said...it's not perfect.. but it's functional, looks 98% better and will last. More importantly it's easy to replicate if I have to take off the door panels again to repair a window motor regulator in the future... SIMPLICITY is the key for me.
