Rear Defrost?

Has anyone ever put a defrost hatch into a car that didn't originally have it? I have a parts car that has a defrost hatch that I would like to put in my '87 TA.

Re: Rear Defrost?

You'll need the dash switch of course, and there's also a relay you'll need that bolts to the inside of the passenger side of the dash just behind the map pocket. Not sure if non-rear defrost cars had the electrical leads for rear defrost built into the standard or not, but all models should have the grounding points built into the rear hatch struts.

Re: Rear Defrost?

Do you think the '84 TA would have the relay I would need?

I'm going to need to find a matching defrost button for my 87'.....

Re: Rear Defrost?

Dunno about an 84...IIRC, the one I got came out of an 85, and plugged right into my 91's harness and bolted up with no problems.

near the hatch, drivers side has power coming up from the dash, passenger side is grounded to chassis.

Re: Rear Defrost?

I also need one of those under-dash rear-defrost timer relays but I can only find them used.

Mine is as well, I just can't find a new one anywhere. All I can find are used on EBay.

Re: Rear Defrost?

I'm not sure if I even want to deal with all this wiring crap or not....

I haven't tested the hatch yet either....
