Door Panel Problems

Hey Guys, I have two different styles of door panels for my '87 TA. I'm changing out doors on the TA, and the new doors have brackets for the older style door panels... Does anyone know how to change out the metal brackets on the doors? I think the newer style door panels look amazing.

Pretty straight forward swap and those "newer" door panels are actually GTA door panels.

Make sure that you swap the interior door handle/lever too. The GTA handle has a hole for a mounting screw - others do not.

How do you put new rivets in? (after you drill them out)

IIRC, these door panels were standard on GTA, and available on other models as a "custom interior" or "deluxe interior" option. See this thread for more info https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ml#post5606690

Yep, my 87 Trans Am non-GTA had the deluxe door panels.

Re: Door Panel Problems

Late in the model run Pontiac changed the bezel to a tear drop design. This is true of all late gen 3 firebirds, not just GTA's. As pointed out, you will need the door handle shown in the photo (this one is broke, the mounting hole bracket is what you need to pay attention to). You will also need the teardrop shaped bezel trim unless you plan to cut those panels up to try and run the old, square bezels. I have a pair of black deluxe armrests for sale if anyone needs them.
