New Headliner

Hey guys, I'm looking at replacing the bad headliner in my T-top IROC; it's completely shot and has been butchered by a previous owner, so I'm going to replace the whole thing with one with the ABS board; it will hold it's shape better and resist any moister it comes into contact with. Anyone used one of these and if so, any tips or pointers on the job? It looks pretty straight forward.

Re: New Headliner

I just installed a T-top version one from stock interiors. It fits pretty good, and I am happy with it. The material matched the original really close as well.

Here is a link to their version of what you need.

Installation was very easy.

Thanks, the company you used is a little cheaper than the one I had found.

Re: New Headliner

I have installed a couple of these. They all seem like they come from the same
mfr. no matter where who u buy them from. They are made a bit short in the
front areas in the front where the visor mounts are and take a bit of massaging
to get into place and leave no gaps.
SO TAKE your time pre-fitting before you trim/cut or install screws !!!!!!!!!!!!

Also with the t-tops your gonna end up putting in interior finish panel screws
with the washers In the corners and t-top center bar areas to keep the panel
from waving and flexing with the windows down or tops off.
Place the screws carefully and they will almost look "factory" and be almost
un-noticeable.
Still a far lot nicer looking than a ragged/flaking or missing headliner !!!!!!!!!

Check ALL vendors on line as at times they have FREE shipping and u save
the average $60 ship fee.

I used a couple of 1 1/2 inch square Velco pads where the front clips were on the original headliner, haven't had any problems when the tops are off.

I bought one from Hawks and had it installed. I think it turned out pretty good!

Re: New Headliner

I installed a hardtop version a month ago and was puzzled on what to do with the front & the lack of clips. It would have been so easy for them to mold in slots for the factory ones. Nice tip on the velcro tabs - I'll be using that one soon.

What color do you have Fran? I'll be needing two t-top ones in the next couple weeks.

Rather than start another thread & I hope the OP doesn't mind, how do you know what color to order? The trim code on my 83 Z-28 is 17C and the one on my 87 IROC is 82C. Dark Grey, graphite, sand grey?

In case of stock interiors, I just ordered the free samples of every grey that looked close. Then matched the samples to a piece of headliner that wasn't to dirty. It came out really close. I also ordered an extra yard off the same roll to match the sail panels.

I would take a picture of the two materials side by side, but the car is currently at the paint and body shop getting a brand new ultra blue paint job!!

Re: New Headliner

None of the samples they sent matched - I just got off the phone with them & will be sending them a sample of mine.

This should be easier!

Re: New Headliner

I am very interested in this. Sounds like several of you have used different companys, (same head board) and have had good/okay results. Can you guys post pics of them installed and include who you ordered it through please?
