OEM Floormat "Rebuild"
My stock floormats are in decent shape on the carpet side, but the back has disintegrated in spots and they were falling apart. Because I want to keep the factory mats I thought I'd try to "rebuild" them. I was able to do it using a set of donor mats cutting them to fit and adhering them to the oem mats in the car.
I wanted them to feel a bit plusher so I used a carpeted mat. You could also use any rubber mat as well.
The first thing to do is clean your mats and let them dry.
Then measure your stock mat.
Once you have the measurements cut the donor mat so that its 1-1/2 inches shorter each way than the oem floormat. This leaves a short edge that will sag a bit and hide the donor mat from sight.
Spray the back of the oem and the carpet side cut from the donor mat with a spray on contact cement.
Let the adhesive tack up and then put the carpet side of the donor mat on the back of the oem mat. Keep something heavy on it till the adhesive sets.
They may not be perfect, but they are the originals and the donor mat is invisible unless you flip over the floormat. The nibs on the back of the donor mat stop them from sliding around like the stock ones do as well.
