Most gauges don't work.. and stupid steering wheel question

So first lets get the stupid question out the way. How the hell do I adjust the steering wheel on my 88 IROC?? Theirs no tilt lever... my 83 Has one.. Maybe I'm blind but I see no way to adjust it.

Anyway. I recently bought a 88 camaro with a blown motor and good trans.. no interior besides dash..

Fast forward 2 weeks later I swapped in a 305 my buddy had laying around and put in my interior from my 83. So far so good. but I'm having an issue with gauges ( I did not touch any )

The only gauges that work are the speedometer & battery. the RPM gauge acts retarded & the fuel gauge is stuck way past full.. water temp stays down and so does oil pressure..

Is there a common problem or a troubleshooting guide for these?

Also, my trunk does not latch down and I don't know what the idiot who had the car before did to the latch and I'm unsure how to fix it.

Any advice / help is appreciated thanks!

Some cars didn't come with tilt. If you have to have it, swap your column from the other car.

Gauge problems could either be wiring or the cluster.

On the gauges, I wonder if they are all related since there are so many variables. Not sure of camaro but on my nova, I have one ground connection.

I replaced the fuel & temp gauges to no avail. The fuel gauge just went straight past full and the temp gauge straight to cold..

In order to save yourself a lot of guessing, head scratching, labor and MONEY, invest in a set of factory service manuals (not a Haynes or Chiltons) for your car. You'll need both the service and the electrical supplement manuals.

If you stumble across an owner's manual, pick that up too.

Might be the printed circuit on the back. I had a similar issue with the Temp and oil pressure gauge on my 1988 Camaro, went and brought a completed gauge cluster and shipped to Australia (not cheap) and them found my gauges had just stuck. Printed circuits are a common fault though
I'm with Paulo buy a good set of manuals. Also there are other forums (can't remember which because I had the same issues) but you can check the output from the sensors to measure the resistance and/or voltage with power on and off. That will tell you if you have a dead sensor.
Good Luck
