Custom dash

Alright guys. I've decided I'm bored with the my dash and have started a custom creation that will blend in with custom door panels and a center console. I know I'm going to draw heat from some hardcore members that like the dash but it is what it is.
Here are some preliminary pics. I'll be putting up a You Tube Channel showing progress and how I did it and will also post more pics on here. I really like it so far.
What do you guys think?
cheers

Re: Custom dash

I think the work looks good. Not my cup of tea, but then again I'm somewhat of a purist. It's your car and if you're happy then the hell with what other people think lol!

Looking forward to seeing the end result.

It's your car, do what you want. Craftsmanship looks good so far. You'll definitely have to pull the steering wheel and probably drop the column to install that. 2 questions:
1. Will you no longer have dash speakers?
2. It doesn't look like you will be able to get the larger bolts in that hold the top of the dash to the car. Can you?

Yes, the steering column had to drop but didn't have to remove steering wheel.
No dash speakers. I am also building custom door panels to match that will have speakers and tweeters mounted up high or on the pillars, but not protruding too much. It's not a stereo competition car so I want to blend everything in in an appealing way.
Correct, no large top bolts because of the curve on the dash. all other bolts line up as I used the original dash as a skeleton for the mod. There are some side steel areas that I plan on bolting the dash up to with larger bolts.
Been extremely busy and have not finished it but it is in the car. The vents work perfectly as well.
Cheers

Re: Custom dash

Have you considered a different gauge cluster. Looks like you are molding the unit off of some other dash. If you haven't you should find one you like and make it fit to that.

I have been looking at the digital gauges for it but they are expensive as hell. I stopped modifying the dash in that area in case I found something more modern I can adapt to the current wiring. Still have to do some more research.

Re: Custom dash

I finished the next stage. The dash is in. The vinyl on it is going to be used as the template of where I need to make some cuts and do some stitching.
The spring I will finish it along with the door panels, center console and a few other things.
I have a YouTube channel that shows the dash in place. Skip to the one minute mark to see the dash in place.
